• Complete Monster: Grings Kodai. Isn't above electrocuting kids, lying to an entire town to accomplish his aims, or kicking the movie's adorable mascot.
    • He plans to capture the Time Ripple effect caused by Celebi, even if it means destroying Crown City. He knows fully well that the latter will happen if he gets his way, since he caused a similar disaster twenty years ago. He doesn't care.
    • He's only the second of the movie villains to have absolutely no redeeming qualities to him at all, the other being the Iron Mask Marauder, and Grings's sadistic personality and lack of Evil Is Cool makes him come off as even worse. After subduing Zoroark by electrocuting her own child right in front of her, he quips that he completely enjoyed it. And then he orders his Shuppet to attempt to kill Zoroark even though she's no longer any threat at all to him! And Shuppet has a type disadvantage -- what the hell was he thinking?!? And then he becomes the only villain in the entire anime to intentionally kill a Pokémon! It was a Disney Death, but still! While other villains accidentally do it, he purposely murdered Zoroark in cold blood!
    • Undying Loyalty: And his Pokémon, Mismagius and Shuppet, do anything and everything he tells them to do, no matter if it's attacking a weakened toddler of a Pokémon shakily and desperately trying to reach its mother or not. And they have a type disadvantage against said toddler and mother... yet manage to kick their asses anyways!
    • Also, look at the reaction he gets from the other characters at the end. They're all giving him a mass Death Glare, including Officer Jenny and the cop with her, who likely just found out about his actions. And Ash and company help set him up for the most humiliating defeat of any Pokemon villain to date. This guy is so evil that even Ash is just sitting there, glaring right at him. All other times Ash is mad at someone, he tells them off while glaring. This time he just sits there with a look of hatred on his face.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Zorua and Zoroark finally being reunited.

Zorua: I knew you were strong Meema.

    • Celebi comforting a crying Zorua.
  • Evil Is Cool: Averted. HARD. Nobody really likes Kodai, as he doesn't even come off as Badass.
  • Macekre: The English Dub shown on Cartoon Network was a Cut and Paste Translation done without The Pokémon Company's knowlege. Among other things, the editing in the dub cut out plot-relevant bits, resulting in two noticeable plot holes.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Kodai crosses it when he strangles Celebi in order to gain more power from it.
  • Narm: Zorua's "Meema" word.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Zoroark, once again. However, she might have been intended to be scary at a low level.
    • Kodai, too; he shocks people, traps them in boxes, and throws them at hard objects, and he doesn't care who he does it to.
    • Kodai's electrocutions; unlike the normal Harmless Electrocution, you see the victim(s) convulsing in pain and screaming in agony. While both are scary, Zorua's is far worse, as the poor thing is just a baby suffering like that, making it rather... hard to watch.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: A good number of people consider it to be the best of the Diamond And Pearl films.
  • Tear Jerker: Zoroark's Disney Death, as well as the events that lead up to it.
    • Dub induced one:
    • When Zoroark is confronting the Legendary Beasts and senses Zorua getting hurt. While not played up, the simple fact is she's a mother who knows her beloved son is on the other side of town, being hurt, and thanks to the trio, there's nothing she can do about it. It shows in the fight, as she's trying her hardest to get enough distance to make it to Zorua but just can't.
    • The brief look on her face when she and Zorua are stumbling towards one another. Up until that moment, Zoroark has never shown anything pure, ferocious resolve -- but for an instant, she looks close to tears.
  • The Woobie: Zorua. Especially at the climax.
