- Ocarina of Time has the moaning and groaning that fills the area when there are Gibdos and ReDeads nearby.
- The most horrifying sound from Ocarina of Time? Hey! Listen!
- The ReDead's paralyzing scream.
- How about when you are in the Great Deku tree, and you enter the room where the boss Queen Gohma is? You stand there for a while in the darkness and you hear a scratching sound around you. You look up and see Queen Gohma who is a giant hairy spider with one horrible eye crawling around on the ceiling.
- Queen Gohma rolling her eye.
- Queen Gohma screaming.
- Phantom Ganon laughing.
- Volvagia screaming.
- Volvagia screaming after getting hurt.
- Morpha making bubbles underwater.
- Morpha forming an appendage.
- Morpha's appendage lurking before attacking.
- Morpha dripping from the ceiling.
- The Forest Temple music. Oh God, no matter which room you're in, there's no escaping the music. If ululating flutes, rattling sounds, and strange synth noises that seem a tiny bit too fast for the tempo and make you feel like things are spinning out of control aren't unnerving enough, just wait for the gibbering to start...hear it here.
- It Got Worse within this tropette's own Fridge Horror moment when she tried to figure out what that violin-ish noise is that keeps going in and out of the song. Then she remembered that the Forest Temple is haunted. That could be a ghost that is FOLLOWING YOU THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE TEMPLE.
- And then there's the re-orchestrated version of this music. Sweet Nightmares, Tropers!
- Let's not forget The Fire Temple's music, before it was altered after complaints from Muslims groups (due to the use of an Islamic chant). An extremely simple song, but the chanting dipping in and out, and the drums getting quieter as the chanting gets louder, is just hella-creepy.
- The Shadow Temple music. If even entering that place doesn't make your hair stand on end, the music will do the trick. God, that music just hits you hard as soon as you enter, and fills you with dread. It has a chorus doing some weird echoey moaning... Really, this forum said it best.
- Want a taste of the re-orchestrated version? That whispering...
- Would the windmill song count? I mean, it's played literally in Zelda's Birthday, where it's the music playing in what's implied to actually be hell
- The Gold Skulltula scratching. You'll want to get the token just to make it stop.
- This one runs the whole gamut. Most Wonderful Sound (when you find one and can actually get the token), Most Annoying Sound (when you can't), and probably yes, Hell Is That Noise (when you keep hearing it).
- The flapping of Keese wings, especially in packs. Even moreso when it suddenly stops and you know you're getting divebombed.
- The battle theme. You're just walking around someplace (sometimes at night when there's no music), and all of a sudden, this music fades in and next thing you're thinking is "Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?!"
- Hyrule Field's music is a Variable Mix. When you encounter an enemy in an area that uses it, the music smoothly transists to a more unsettling section of the piece. That's your cue to shudder, especially if you don't know where the enemy in question is.
- On the way to the Forest Temple, you have to make your way through a maze of Moblins. They make some bizarre sounds, that strange mechanical grumbling when they're walking and the "GRRRNT!" when they charge at you, looking like they're about to skewer poor Link on their spears.
- The low health 'bu-beep' sound. At first, it's slightly annoying. But when you are stuck in a dungeon and you annoyingly can't find any health anywhere, it becomes truly terrifying.
- The sound of a Wallmaster descending from the ceiling, especially if you only begin to notice it right before it's on top of you.
- The sound that a Like Like (and a torch slug) makes.
- Bongo Bongo's vocal noise is the single creepiest thing outside of the ReDeads, in my opinion.
- Did anyone else but me notice that Bongo Bongo's vocal noise sounds like he is saying "I want to die"? Good God, it's really chilling when you play it over and over.
- Which is probably why Jadusable chose it to represent Kelbris.
- It also sounds really, really eerily similar to the godlike Four Giants of Majora's Mask...The concept of Bongo Bongo as a similar but evil being is incredibly chilling.
- Alternatively, "I love you, baby."
- The sound of the Dead Hand moving.
- The Fairy Queen's "laugh" (*cough* scream *cough*) of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask...omg...
- The chilling sound of the guillotine traps in the Shadow Temple rising up on chains, "rattle......raaaatle...," then falling down with a sickening "KER-CHOP!!!"
- The equally nerve-rattling terror of Ganon's bloodthirsty roars! His final howl before being sealed by the Six Sages and Zelda will stick with you most of all.
- Ocarina of Time has the moaning and groaning that fills the area when there are Gibdos and ReDeads nearby.
- Majora's Mask's theme music.
- The music that plays around midnight on the final day when the countdown begins to signify the time left before the moon falls. Bonus points for being depressing as well as scary.
- The music for the Stone Tower Temple, is somewhat eerie and yet soothing with its catchy ocarina melody, nice beat, and very moody male chorus. When you turn the Stone Tower Temple upside down however, the male chorus changes to a female chorus (or maybe a boy's choir?), the beat is reversed, and the instrumentation overall is different, yet the melody remains the same. There's also an additional "flickering" sound that travels between the left and right channels, making the song sound more mystical and surreal.
- The Woodfall Temple theme is like some demented tribal music with its funky sounding drum and bongo beats and strong bass line.
- Snowhead Temple isn't very musical at all, sounding rather cold and ominous, except for a few piano notes and guitar plucking here and there and it has a sound effect that sounds like someone pulled the plug on a huge piece of machinery.
- And the "Ikana's Ancient Castle" with its slow cadence, blasting brass, moody chorus, pounding bass drum, and shrieking string sounds toward its end.
- Speaking of Ikana Valley, its background music will chill your bones.
- The horrific shriek that the Skull Kid lets out to call the moon down.
- The Happy Mask Salesman's laugh also qualifies.
- Even the Clock Town music gets terrifying when the third day rolls around. the sped up mandolin, flute, and accordion playing the theme twice as fast as Day 1 or Day 2, accompanied with a discordant organ looming behind the normally cheerful theme makes you really want to hurry up and skip back to Day 1.
- You know how OoT's battle-music can be frightening? That one from Majora's Mask is much worse. At first, it starts off pretty low-key, but quickly descends into something more sinister, quite fittingly for the darker atmosphere, while at the same time being awesome. You can hear it here.
- In Woodfall Temple, how about those plant-like platforms to get over the poisonous water? Not only did they have teeth, not only did they have a blood-red, gaping mouth ready to snap you up, but they made a horrible fleshy gurgle every time you jump on them.
- The Wind Waker's Redead screams are even scarier than the ones in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Just hearing their elephant-like scream reminds me of their face...
- Similarly, the Wall Masters now ten times more shrill and twenty times more freaky for it.
- The Wizzrobes teletransporting.
- The scream that you hear after you get the Triforce Chart from the ghost ship.
- Twilight Princess: The bird-like enemies in the Twilight areas. What with the trumpet-bell-like things they have in place of heads that they use to make a distinctive creepy noise. The creepiness of that noise is on par with the groaning noises the Redeads make.
- Crossing the soldier-ghost room in the final dungeon will leave you only managing a sickened staggering motion across some quick sand and hearing a furious, eerie chittering surrounding you. Turns out that you are covered with lots of invisible rats.
- Can't forget the cutscene where hundreds of upside down Ilias suddenly start falling from above complete with her Laughing Mad-like giggling...Or when one of the Dark Link's scream "YAAAAAAAA-AAAA-AAAAAA!" directly into the camera...
- What about the blood-curdling shriek the Twilit Messengers make when they try to resurrect their comrades?
- The battle theme in the Twilight Realm. It literally has no melody, it's just... there.
- The City in the Sky theme has a very... surreal chorus.
- It's basically bits of the tune that plays when Ooccoo is talking to you.
- ZANT'S HAND. That whole segment runs on Nightmare Fuel. You pull an orb of light from a statue eerily similar to a human hand, then get about 10 feet away when... it springs to life looking to take back its prize... accompanied by freaky warbling noises. Now, the hand will follow you all the way to the entrance of the castle. But that's not the scary part. Whenever Zant's Hand approaches, you can faintly hear unnerving musical stings. As it nears, they become sharp musical screeches that become increasingly louder, dire, and menacing. If it gets too loud... you're about to watch the orb get whisked away by that deranged disembodied schizo-tech monstrosity!!! RUN!!!!
- Skyward Sword: The war horns of the Bokoblins. Particularly during the semi-finale of the game.
- They're usually silent, but let a Cursed Bokoblin cling to you for too long, and it lets out a horrifying, deep roar. It's especially jarring on account of how different it sounds from a living Bokoblin's rather shrill and comical-sounding voice.
- Wall Masters. Doesn't matter which game, they're ALWAYS making some freaky-ass noise, sometimes from a different room entirely.
- That all too sudden tone of your defenses falling away in the Spirit Trials. The slow, soothing music ends abruptly in this drawn out tone, and the Guardians' eyes come to life. Suddenly the sky's turn a hellish orange and the constant clanging of metal against metal is ringing in your ear as the invincible guardians either slowly float after you or chase you down at high speeds it...it...make it stop!
- The Scaldera\Tentalus battle theme in Skyward Sword lies between Awesome Music and Nightmare Fuel. Especially thanks to those cacophonic screeching sounds and pounding drums.
- The final battle music is a combination of epic and dissonant at the same time.
