A New Hope/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Breakthrough Hit: This film made George Lucas the media titan he is today.
  • Fan Nickname: The Dianoga was known for many years among East Coast (US) fandom as "the Scrod" (after a fish dinner on the menu at a hotel restaurant during a convention). (It wasn't until the publication of the book Ultimate Star Wars in 2015 that it received an official name.)
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Listen to the voice of the Imperial officer who tells Vader that there's no one on board the Millennium Falcon. Are you suddenly thinking of The Simpsons? That's because several of the British incidental cast were dubbed by none other than Harry Shearer. You can also hear him dubbing the guy on the Star Destroyer who sees the escape pod ("There goes another one") and one of the Rebel pilots in the Death Star attack ("The guns...they've stopped!")
  • Novelization First: By only a couple months.
  • What Might Have Been: Obi-Wan Kenobi's Heroic Sacrifice is one of the most iconic scenes in the franchise, and no fan alive would consider a change of the plot where he survived to be anything but sacrilege. Yet, an early version of the script showed just that, with storyboard illustrations showing him escaping the battle and fleeing the Death Star with the others. Seriously, Peter Mayhew himself confirmed this. One can only imagine how it might have turned out had Lucas decided to keep this version.
