  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Though Arthur Miller did not intend for Eddie to be seen as a sick incestuous pedophile, he certainly comes off that way. Miller's actual intention was a character who is confused by his own feelings but always tries to do what he believes is right. There's also the issue of just when Eddie's feeling for Catherine went all incestuous.
    • Believe it or not, there are people who suggested Eddie is actually sexually confused and he feels more towards Rudolpho than Catherine. Maybe someone was just high on crack...
  • Values Dissonance: An example within the work itself between the Italian Marco, who very much believes in the unwritten laws of honour and the now Americanized Alfieri who "settles for half and likes it better", sticking to mostly written law.
