Basic Trope: Characters with plain names live alongide characters with weird names.

  • Straight: Joe has a friend named Kunashi.
  • Exaggerated: Joe has a friend named Bulx'a7ʘ̃ ahshi.
  • Justified: Joe and Kunashi are from different cultures.
  • Inverted: The village has lots of name like Kunashi and Watashi, but there is one person named Joe.
  • Subverted: Joe's name is short for Joznaku...
  • Double Subverted: ...but Joznaku is the local transliteration of Joseph.
  • Parodied: Joe and his friend n!qgamnognx'klxoqaidrothʘnotha7akloʘ̃ nayrethonothaeogijsifngirsifkbnjrsghtsgbngt live in the same secluded village; no one notices the contrast.
    • Joe and his friend are taking a test. His friend asks for ten pages of continuation paper. By the time the exam is finished, his friend protests that he hasn't finished writing his name.
  • Deconstructed: Kunashi is made fun of because no one can pronounce his name. He and his family are purged from the village because people think that the name may be a curse.
  • Reconstructed: The village folks overcome their superstition. Kunashi and his family are accepted because the community believes diversity is good.
  • Zig Zagged: There are multiple villages in the same region. In some, everyone has a standard English name. In others, a mix of names from multiple language. In one, everyone has exclusively Italian names. Characters are forced to change their name to whatever standard the village uses.
  • Averted: Joe's friend is named Sophie.
  • Enforced: The head writer thinks that Kunashi is a cool name.
  • Lampshaded: "Kunashi? That's an unusual name"
  • Invoked: Joe and Kunashi's parents introduce them to each other to help them grow into tolerant human beings to help build the global community
  • Defied: Kunashi's parents rename him Bob.
  • Exploited: In a world where people are controlled with their True Names, Joe names his child "Abieuagbseiaaabieoga". No one can pronounce that name, therefore no one can control Joe's child.
    • Joe moves to a village to improve his pronunciation of foreign words.
  • Discussed: "Kunashi, why do you have that name?"
  • Conversed: "Wait, in All the Tropers comes to America, why is this guy just called Kunashi? Shouldn't he have a normal name like Joe?"
