America's Funniest Home Videos/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Dude, Not Funny: Everytime the joke in a video is an elderly person falling or getting hurt, or a child.
    • Rather grating to see a toddler run over their infant sibling, then have the audience laugh uproariously.
    • Heck you could say any time a video shows anyone getting hurt, which is most of the time.
    • There was one clip where a kid was crying because he had diarrhea, while the mom was just filming and laughing; only the family dog was being nice to the poor kid. The worst part? This won the $10,000 prize.
    • The clips with people vomiting are just cruel, the person is sick and they are being recorded and humiliated on tv while the audience just laughs
    • And another clip where a kid's parents give him a small cake for getting good grades, only for them to reveal it's actually a toilet paper roll covered in frosting. The child understandably cries his eyes out while his parents act like jerks, all while the audience is laughing.
      • To add insult to injury, all of the rights to these clips are owned by Vin Di Bona Productions, meaning that they can and do get reused in new episodes. Combine that with reruns and second-run Syndication, and it becomes a textbook example of Never Live It Down for the people involved. Not funny, indeed.
  • Ear Worm: "America, America, this is you."
  • Nausea Fuel: The Bergeron-era segments "The Naughty Files" and "A Moment of Ewwwww!" specifically showcase grosser clips than the producers were allowed to show before. Snot and vomit gags (usually via babies) have popped up elsewhere as well.
  • Replacement Scrappy and Seasonal Rot: The Fuentes/Fugelsang era is often considered the show's nadir. On the other hand, the Bergeron era is often considered at least as good as, if not better than, the original Saget episodes.
  • Tastes Like Diabetes: If one of the finalists involves a little kid doing/saying something adorably saccharine, go ahead and change the channel.
    • You can also apply this to dogs. A lot of this is likely because the studio audience has the final vote, and it's usually filled with families. The parents are more likely to find cute videos funny.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: The general opinion of the Fuentes/Fugelsang era.
  • What the Hell, Casting Agency?: Just like with his stint on Full House, the casting of vulgar comedian Bob Saget as the host of a kiddie-safe show left many scratching their heads.
