Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid

Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid was a sequel to Anaconda and was directed by Dwight H. Little. It is the second installment of the Anaconda film series and earned enough money financially to make another sequel.

The story follows a small expedition team, that was funded by the Wexel Hall pharmaceutical firm, into the inner jungles of Borneo to find the mythical flower, called the Blood Orchid, which they believe to give longer and healthier lives, they want this plant for scientific advancements for mankind. Until, disaster struck, then they have to fight for their lives to survive a very unfriendly jungle, including anacondas that are stalking them. This also explained why there's giant anacondas in the first place.

Tropes used in Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid include:

The Alcoholic: Livingston.
- His drinking made John half woozy, so he cannot properly fight against the anaconda that boarded his boat. It costed him.
Amplifier Artifact: The blood orchid's properties was theorized by the doctors of science that it will give humans near immortality, by slowing down aging.
- played straight with the Borneo Anacondas, the reasons why they outlive and outgrew normal anacondas was because they consume these flowers.
Antagonist Title
Backstory: The many of the characters' backstory are revealed in conversations, like Bill and Gail's, just to name a few.
Big Bad: Jack is exposed as this by the end of the film.
Black Dude Dies First: Gloriously subverted when the whiny, scared, "we never should have come here" black guy is one of the four people to survive to the end. And all of his complaints were actually valid (and typically considered valid by non Idiot Ball holders), if ignored.
- Also subverted with Mitchell getting murdered by Jack, due to Ben and Bill's friend being the first victims of the kill count.
CGI
Chain-Reaction Destruction: After when Gail tricked the female anaconda into biting the fuel container, Cole upon realizing that Bill's using an empty pistol, flare gun to shoot the huge snake, this started a fiery explosions, and a cave in which killed the constrictors and destroyed the Blood Orchids.
Chekhov's Gun: The rock spider.
Covers Always Lie: The DVD box stated that the scientists will have to battle their way through savage head hunters. But there wasn't a single cannibal in the whole film.
- Tran was right that the tribe weren't practicing headhunting for the last few centuries. Also, the tribe probably left their village temporarily due to anaconda mating season.
Cunning Linguist: Some of the Wexel Hall pharmacists can speak and understand Indonesian. Despite a character informing a few of them that their language skills sucks.
Dulcinea Effect: When Gail gets attacked by a crocodile, rather than grabbing a rifle, Bill simply jumps into the water and starts wrestling the crocodile with a knife. Lampshaded.

Sam: That is either the bravest or the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
Bill: It's a fine line.

Bill probably saved her for job reasons and no romantic stuff whatsoever, plus, Gail later on decided to warm up to Mitchell instead.

Doomed Appointment: John Livingston's journey to pick up his BFF and the expedition crew for the return to civilization became this.
Dwindling Party
Dying Alone: John Livingston was alone when he was attacked by an anaconda and then dragged to his watery grave.
- Tran Wu also died alone when he fell to a trap door into a hidden river and got eaten by an anaconda.
Earn Your Happy Ending: Some of the characters, like Cole, Gail, and Sam, had to work to survive and to return to civilization as well as getting that hot bath and Garden's seating between Spike and Woody.
Eaten Alive/Swallowed Whole: Like its predecessor, some of the characters getting eaten alive and swallowed by anacondas comes with the territory.
Everything's Better with Monkeys: Kong, Bill's pet monkey.
Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": According to Bill the Indonesian locals nickname him "Jin Soon."

Fantastic Flora: The mythical Blood Orchid of Borneo, which can grant near immortality.
Ghost Town: The headhunter tribe is thoroughly abandoned that not even a pet dog is presence.
Foreshadowing: Unbeknownst to the Hexel Hall gang, they're being stalked by one of the anacondas who just ate the crocodile that Johnson killed earlier.
Licensed Game: Sony made two games to advertise this film.

Hungry Jungle
Hoist by His Own Petard: Jack gets bitten by his own paralizing spider, falling into the snake pit and getting eaten.
Immortality Seekers
Inevitable Waterfall: Since the gang made a wrong turn due to strong currents, the Bloody Mary went over it.
Intellectual Animal: Just like in the first film, the anacondas are designed to be smarter than their real life cousins.
It Got Worse
Just Think of the Potential: The search for the blood orchid flower, the chemicals of which could yield the attainment of biological immortality.
- The villain even mentions this fact and about the lives that they could save and extend.
Kill It With Fire: In order to kill an attacking anaconda in the tribe village, Bill set the wooden hut on fire.
Kill the Cute One: While Kong was working his way on getting a low hanging mango. An anaconda began chasing after him while he attempted to make a quick getaway.
- Kong survive the ordeal and was able to reunite with his owner and his "guests."
Knows a Guy Who Knows a Guy: Burris stated this though not word for word. Turns out that he was right.
MacGuffin: The blood orchid.
Misplaced Wildlife: This movie has anacondas in Borneo.
- Real Life: The spider, the golden silk orb weaving spider, that portrayed the Stone Spider, are a rather harmless species found in North America.
The Mutiny: The expedition crew all rebel against Dr.Bryon when the trip became TOO perilous to risk.
Never Split the Party: This was one of Bill's many good advises through out the whole film. Don't ever get separated ever.
Noodle Incident: How Cole managed to get a ton of equipment passed the Indonesian customs officers.
- Bill telling John over the cellular phone, that if John doesn't show up at Naga Rock. He's gonna rat to Mrs. Livingston about her husband's "that little side trip to Bangkok." What Livingston did in the past in China also counts as this.
The Paralyzer: The Rock Spider. According to Tram, the victim will be paralyzed for two days.

River of Insanity: The Mendranag river.
Race Against the Clock: The Perrinnia Immortalis, aka the Blood Orchid, only has a few months staying in full bloom.

Short Cuts Make Long Delays
- At the end, when Bill suggested that he knows of a shortcut. The other survivors shouted "NO!"
Shout-Out: Ben humming the iconic Jaws theme.
- Bill's boat, the Bloody Mary, was a reference to the African Queen movie.
- Cole mentions that he had this friend, who knew another friend that was part of a documentary crew whose show was in the Discovery Channel. Where most of the crew got eaten...This was a reference the first movie.
- To "Survivor" when Burris's fellow scientist stated that "I'm going to vote you off this island." To him.
- It's apparent that Bill's pet is named after "King Kong."
Snakes Are Evil
Society of Immortals: The pharmacists are hoping that the Blood Orchid's results will advance humanity to reach the point to become this.
Spiders Are Scary: The paralyzing Rock Spider.
Super-Persistent Predator: Justified. The movie somewhat succesfully gets around the previous film's problem of having the snake pursue the heroes for so long to eat them by there being many snakes in the same area due to a mating season being in progress.

Uncle Tomfoolery
Gory Discretion Shot: Some of the anaconda attack scenes are these, like: When one of the anacondas pulls John Livingston off screen to be eaten.
Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jack ends up finding the possibility of human lifespan extension well worth sacrificing the lives of his colleagues.
When It Rains, It Pours: Which started the pharmacists problems the minute they first step foot in Borneo, Indonesia, since it's raining like no tomorrow, like no ship company doesn't wanna risk the bad rainy season, to the Bloody Mary gang encountering more Mendranang river problems than they can count.
