The Aveyond series are downloadable PC RPG games created by Amaranth Games. The game engine used for the games are RPG Maker XP with the exception of Ahriman's Prophecy which was created with RM2k3.

The whole series takes place in a world called Aia. The games normally start out with a teen around 13-17 years old, who is the main character living their lives until the Big Bad does something that thrusts them out of their peaceful lives and the next thing they know, an old lady who is the goddess that created the world tells them that they are part of some prophecy to prevent The End of the World as We Know It.

Ahriman's Prophecy starts out with Talia Maurva, who wants to be "named", or given a life job, but ends up being ordered to go to Thais along with Devin Perry to learn magic so she can save the world.

Aveyond starts out with a purple-haired girl named Rhen who finds an unconsious priestess that tells her she is the Chosen One who must stop Ahriman from destroying the world.

Aveyond 2 begins with a normal elven boy named Ean who goes on a journey to save the spirit of his best friend Iya when the Snow Queen captures her so she can use Iya's power to freeze the world.

Aveyond 3 (or at least, only the first 2 chapters of it) starts out with a thief who is paid to find a magical heirloom in a creepy manor on the outskirts of town. Little does she know that the client is a vampire who needs this orb to take over the world.

Aveyond 3, after the first 2 chapters... goes insane. Somehow there's an ancient prophecy involved somewhere and the villain turns out to be... Mel herself?

Tropes used in Aveyond include:
  • Accidental Truth: In Aveyond 3 Mel told a curious Edward that she's bringing the amnesiac Stella home to Naylith. This was obviously meant to be a lie (since Stella didn't even know where she came from at that moment), but we later find out that she really is a Naylithian
  • Action Girl: Alicia, Rhen, Elini, and Te'ijal.
  • Adorable Evil Minions: Darklings.
  • Anti-Hero: Mel, sort of, as she starts out as a shameless thief. And ends off as a pretty shameless spy too. And in the end, it turns out that she's the descendant of Mordred Darkthrop who is one of those prophesied to take over the world and lead it into darkness. Poor Mel. Villain Protagonist in the making. Or maybe not.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: The Snow Queen in Aveyond 2. Although, it turns out she was brainwashed... Also, Lydia in Aveyond 3 The Lost Orb.
  • The Artful Dodger: Jack can count as this seeing how he's a thief in the street and he enjoys it. Even though he's physically weak, he can hold up on his own as being street smart and is an expert at picking locks.
  • Aw, Look -- They Really Do Love Each Other: Galahad and Te'ijal, especially in Aveyond 3.
    • According to the game Galahad just values his marriage vows more than he hates his wife, but Te'ijal's letters in Aveyond 3: The Lost Orb seem to imply otherwise...
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: The canon ending in Aveyond 1 where Rhen chooses to accept her duty as the ruler of Thais and marries Dameon in the process.
  • Back Stab: A spell in Aveyond 1.
  • Badass Cape: Nox's floats behind her when she walks.
  • Because Destiny Says So: The prophecy about the chosen Darkthrop conquering the world. Played straight and played with somehow; only the chosen Darkthrop (Mel) can successfully conquer the world, as Mordred discovers when he tries. So he manipulates Mel into capturing all the rulers of the world to fulfill the prophecy, then tries to take over. The heroes defeat him, Mel lets the rulers go, the world is safe, and there's no more danger from the Darkthrop prophecy.
  • Betty and Veronica: Aveyond 3 ups the ante by having three major love interests for Edward: Mystical Waif Stella (Betty compared to Lydia, Veronica compared to Mel), Rich Bitch Lydia (Veronica), and Anti-Hero Best Friend Mel (Betty). He even has a Fourth Option Love Interest if he doesn't successfully propose to any of the main love interests; his mother arranges a marriage to Orc princess Belf.
    • After The Darkthrop Prophecy, though, Stella's more Betty than Mel.
  • Big Bad: Zorom Ahriman's Prophecy, Ahriman Ahriman's Prophecy and Aveyond 1, Snow Queen Aveyond 2 (Actually, Heptitus was brainwashing the Snow Queen making her the evil mastermind behind the events of Aveyond 2), Gyendal Ravenfoot Aveyond 3 (Mordred Darkthrop was The Man Behind the Man to Gyendal the whole time)
  • Brainwashed: Heptitus brainwashes her sister, the Snow Queen, to turn the world into an icy wasteland.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Stella from Aveyond 3 was revealed to have been brainwashed by Gyendal and smashed the orb they needed so badly, even almost killing her friends.
  • Braids of Action: Rhen.
  • Children Are Innocent: Children in Harburg, Aveyond 3.
  • Coup De Grace Cutsene: Aveyond 1, against Ahriman.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Vampirism is a horrific curse, according to Galahad. Other vampires, including his wife, disagree.
  • Dark Messiah: The darklings and other traditionally evil beings believe the prophesied Darkthrop will be this.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Te'ijal, Jack, Mel, and sometimes Elini.
  • Doomed Hometown: Ahriman wiped out nearly the whole mainland including the protagonists' hometowns between Ahrimans Prophecy and Aveyond 1.
  • Eleventh-Hour Superpower: Stakes against the vampire bosses in Aveyond 3.
  • Everythings Nuttier With Squirrels: Militant squirrels appear in every game so far.
  • Face Heel Turn:
  • Evil Counterpart: Nox to Mel. Actually, Nox to her sister Uma, and arguably Mordred to his descendant Mel.
  • Freeware Games: Ahriman's Prophecy.
  • Geographic Flexibility: Thais is on a continent known as the Mainland. That's pretty much the only geography held constant through all the games.
  • Girl with Psycho Weapon: Nox is a young girl whose Weapon of Choice is a cleaver/scythe.
  • God in Human Form: The Oracle
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Nox. One look at those glowing blue eyes and you know there's something wrong... Then subverted with her sister Uma, who has the same glowing blue eyes and is one step away from being Miss Goody Two-Shoes.
  • God Save Us From the Queen: The Snow Queen in Aveyond 2 at least while she's Brainwashed and Crazy, Lydia Rupert in the second half of Aveyond 3.
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: Whenever there is some sort of evil threatening the world, Oracle usually just sends someone tell the main characters that they must save the world or just tells them herself despite the fact that she created Aia, so you might think she might be able to do something about it with a wave of her hand. And she certainly doesn't provide any help for the heroes in their quest except for that one time where she gave Rhen the Sword of Shadows.
  • Green Eyed Red Head: Talia Maurva.
  • Have a Nice Death: The death screen says: "Ye wimp! Who taught you how to fight?!"
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Jack can do this in Ahriman's Prophecy to get Succubus's Sea Relic. Also, in Aveyond: Gates of Night, Stella sacrifices herself by using up all her magic in order to activate the orb of life.
  • Heel Face Turn: Dameon does this after Rhen uses fairy dust on him.
  • Hot Chick with a Sword: Rhen Darzon.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Talia just wanted to be an herbalist for her village, but instead she ends up getting sent to Thais to learn how to be a mage. Also, Edward would rather be a chicken farmer than a prince.
    • Alicia just wants to be a normal citizen rather than a princess, to the point where she runs away with Talia and co.
    • Mel wants nothing to do with the Darkthrop prophecy.
  • Jerkass: Nicholas is this, but the player has the option to make him into a nicer guy. And Lydia is one too, but she shows no change in this throughout Lord of Twilight and Gates of Night.
    • Plus Lydia gets worse in The Lost Orb.
    • Also Lars at the start of the Aveyond 1. He becomes nicer though, even apologizing to Rhen at one point.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Lydia. She's very much an Alpha Bitch and a Rich Bitch, but she does help the party save the world, so she has some good qualities, right? Wrong, by "The Lost Orb" she's become even worse by usurping Edward's throne and freeing the genocidal ex-vampire Gyendal.
  • Left Hanging: By the time chapter 1 of Aveyond 3 ends, there are still plenty of loose ends that cannot be resolved until chapter 2.
    • All the released chapters in Aveyond 3, really.
  • Love Interests: There are usually love interests for certain party members in each game.
  • Love Potion: Gavin(Not Aveyond 2 Gavin) casts a love spell on all the witches in New Witchwood in Aveyond 1. Also in Aveyond 1 Elini uses a love potion on Pirate John.
    • It makes a return in Aveyond 3. Either Edward or Spook uses it on Mel.
  • Made a Slave: Rhen is kidnapped from her home village and is tossed into slavery for three months in Aveyond 1.
  • The Masochism Tango: Galahad and Te'ijal. To elaborate, he was a Lawful Good borderline Knight Templar who hated everything dark. She's a Heroic Sociopath vampire. She stole his soul, making him her slave, tricked him into marrying her, and turned him into a vampire. They've been married for centuries as of Aveyond 3, and he still calls her spawn of evil and tries escape and get himself killed periodically. When they're both turned human in The Lost Orb, Te'ijal is unhappy that Galahad no longer uses the endearment "spawn of evil" for her.
  • Mysterious Waif: Stella from Aveyond 3, and maybe Dameon from Aveyond 1.
  • The Mole: Dameon, but he does a Heel Face Turn once Rhen uses fairy dust on him.
  • Multiple Endings
  • Noble Demon:
    • Te'ijal in Aveyond 1 and especially Aveyond 3; though she considers humans inferior and her prey, she joins the party and helps save the world, opposing every other vampire and her own brother at times.
    • Yemite the darkling in Aveyond 3. She serves Mel's wishes, no matter if Mel wants her to do good or do evil.
  • Non-Action Guy: Ean at the beginning of Aveyond 2.
  • Nonstandard Game Over: You get this around the beginning of the game if you have Talia lie to her grandmother about what Avrail told her.
  • Not Quite Dead:
    • Apparently, no one could have been bothered to check if Ahriman was dead after that final battle with Talia and the other party members.
    • In Aveyond 3, Mordred Darkthrop wasn't killed by his son, but instead escaped to the Demon Realm.
  • Official Couple: Many, but special mention goes to Galahad/Te'ijal, which appears in three games so far.
  • Only One Name: Mel. Later in Aveyond 3 in the third chapter, though everyone else only knows her as 'Mel', the ones who are involved with her ancestor's prophecy call her Mel Darkthrop.
    • There's also Jack who has no last name at all.
  • Optional Party Member: In the first four games

  • Rags to Royalty: This happens to Devin between Ahriman's Prophecy and Aveyond 1 Cinderella style. Also for Rhen is sort of a Sleeping Beauty example, but without the sleeping part when she finds out she's the long lost princess of Thais.
    • And to add that this can happen to Mel or Stella if the player chooses to have either one of them engaged to Edward.
  • Really Seven Hundred Years Old: Jack from Ahriman's Prophecy is over 200 years old by the time Ean and the rest of the party in Aveyond 2 free him from the stone statue curse that he was placed under despite the fact that he's physically fourteen. Also Galahad after Aveyond 1 and Te'ijal are respectively 337 and 831 years old despite their appearance.
  • Rebellious Princess: Specifically Alicia Pendragon who wishes she could become a mercenary instead.
  • Red Herring Twist: In Aveyond 3: The Lost Orb, Spook, the thief who seems to like Mel, is actually Gyendal in disguise.
  • Royal Brat: Nicholas Pendragon is certainly a royal brat to the point that his brother, Uthar, asks Ava to turn him into a better person. Another example in Lydia Rupert who is a bratty noble who is Prince Edward Pendragon's cousin, and stays like this for the rest of Aveyond 3: Lord of Twilight and Aveyond 3: Gates of Night.
  • Save the Princess: Ahriman's Prophecy where Princess Alicia is kidnapped by Zorom and Devin and Talia have to save her.
  • Shareware: All of the installments save for Ahriman's Prophecy.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: As of TDP, Uma and Nox fit this trope to a T.
    • Let's not forget Gyendal and Te'ijal (yes, they ARE siblings), especially since they're of opposite genders. You can't get more Yin-Yang than that! Gyendal is an evil human-hating mage who is weak in physical combat and Te'ijal is a non-magical tough melee fighter who finds humans fascinating and at least good enough to not be counted a villain.
  • Sliding Scale of Silliness Versus Seriousness: Towards the silly end. As an example, militant squirrels show up in every game so far.
  • Summoning Ritual: Zorom attempts to summon Ahriman in Ahriman's Prophecy.
  • The Chosen One: All of the main characters in the game with the exception of Ean.
    • Actually, Mel isn't The Chosen One - she's just a descendant of Mordred Darkthrop who's running for her life. So basically, the only Chosen Ones are Talia from Ahriman's Prophecy and Rhen from Aveyond 1.
      • As of The Lost Orb it seems that Mel really is the Chosen One, with her really being able to wield magic and complete with a mysterious figure only she can see egging her on to the dark side.
      • As of The Darkthrop Prophecy, Mel is confirmed as the Darkthrop prophesied to create a dark empire; she almost does so in a moment of Not Herself, but her ancestor Mordred appears and reveals that he was using her to build the dark empire so he could take it over. In the end, the party defeats Mordred and Mel, having returned to her senses, declines to take over the world.
  • The Load: Mad Marge in the original, she acts tough but is an optional character with no magic and practically useless during battle. Nobody really uses her unless everyone else is dead.
  • Time Master: One of Lars' possible guilds.
  • Time Skip: Ahriman's Prophecy skips three years after Talia and Devin reach the collegium. Also the games have time gaps between each other. Ahriman's Prophecy is thirty years before Aveyond 1, Aveyond 2 is 200 years after Aveyond 1, and Aveyond 3 is 100 years after Aveyond 2.
  • To Be Continued: Aveyond 3 is a game in two chapters with the first chapter ending after you defeat Heptitus.
    • Finally complete in four chapters. The third chapter ends with Mel and Edward heading for the Arishta isles, which was the setting for Aveyond 1, while the fourth finishes the Aveyond 3 storyline.
  • Trauma Inn: We cure anything except death!
  • Undeath Always Ends: Subverted in Aveyond 3. At the end of "Gates of Night", vampires Galahad and Te'ijal are turned human, but by the end of "The Darkthrop Prophecy, they're both vampires again.
  • Victorious Childhood Friend: If you choose to have Devin and Talia marry in Ahriman's Prophecy. Also, if you choose the royal ending in Aveyond 1... Another example is in Aveyond 2 if you have Ean and Iya marry.
  • We Buy Anything
  • We Can Rule Together: Ahriman offers this to Rhen before the final battle.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Edward's parents will pull this on him if he marries Lydia again, after she (possibly) tricked him into marrying her and usurped his throne.
  • Winter Royal Lady: The Snow Queen.
  • White-Haired Pretty Girl: Uma, Aveyond 3, and possibly Iya from Aveyond 2.
  • Wicked Witch: All of the the witches in the series fit this trope including Heptitus.
    • Not quite all. There was a witch in Aveyond 3 who'd rather be a priestess.
  • Winged Humanoid: The people of Naylith. Stella had her wings cut off in the backstory, but by the end of Aveyond 3 she gets them back.
  • The World Tree: Elder Oak in Aveyond 2
    • And the Great Tree in Aveyond 3
  • You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Devin and other characters have hair in different colors. And they don't even dye their hair.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle: After finally finding the Orb of Light in Naylith, Stella shatters it and it is revealed that all along she has been under Gyendal's control. Now they are going to look for the Orb of LIFE. Figures.
