Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: A religious leader who also is a Badass.

  • Straight: Bob, who is a minister by day, vampire/monster slayer by night.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob beats up vampires, devils, hit men, and every other bad guy of sorts, whilst giving sermons.
    • Bob goes to the harrowing reaches of Hell in every hunting season, instead of participating in deer hunting season.
  • Downplayed: Bob is currently a minister, he used to be a former boxer, and he still gets into the ring to spar whenever he has time.
  • Justified:
    • Bob's faith is his greatest weapon - very useful when it comes to dealing with the creatures of the night.
    • Bob is a Technical Pacifist, despite the fact that he never picks up a weapon, he's usually the first in the front lines to help the wounded.
    • Bob believes that God sent him to fight evil.
    • Bob is in a place were the people of faith are persecuted and must fight back.
    • Bob is a missionary in a war-torn country, were the invading army comes through his region and is hell bent on Rape, Pillage and Burn. For Bob to protect his congregation, he begins Training the Peaceful Villagers and leads them on raids against them.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob may be an Atheist, yet he fights against the dreaded Path of Inspiration.
    • Bob is a minister, but he runs from the battle.
  • Subverted: Bob is a former Badass Biker, who is now atoning and a peaceful man of the cloth. He will not fight back if he was punched by the local gang members.
  • Double Subverted: Then they messed with those that are close to him. Now, It's Personal.
  • Parodied: Bob goes into battle, beating vampires over the head with a Bible.
  • Zig Zagged: As a minister, Bob is trying to not engage in violence, despite the fact that he's a former military man. But when criminals try to take over his small town, he turns into a Technical Pacifist, hires men to fight them off, and trying to get people to safety. But when those hired men are offed off, and he picks up a gun and fights the gang.
  • Averted: Bob, who is just a normal preacher and does his job.
  • Enforced: The writers are religious, otherwise, or wants to engage in Rule of Cool, therefore wants to play with the notion of religious faith in connection with badassery.
  • Lampshaded: "Don't let the Bible fool you. That man can and will kick your ass everyway until Sunday...Good thing, he rests on Sundays."
  • Invoked: Since this is a Crapsack World, Bob, the local minister, knows that people need two things: God and protection. He gives both.
  • Exploited:
    • The demon forces Bob into violent battles. As a means of drawing people away from church, once they, the flock, see a preacher kicking ass.
    • The Bishop hires people to force Bob into incredibly violent battles, to bring new members into the church once they see their preacher in action kicking ass.
  • Defied: Though Bob is aware of vampires, monsters, and the like, even knowing they're vulnerable to his faith, he does not hunt them.
  • Discussed: The congregation of Bob's church wonders if his violent nature is suitable to for members of the clergy.
  • Conversed: After reading a comic featuring Bob and discussing it with friends, Alice wants to see if the writers were trying to mock religion, promoting it, or was trying to be funny.
  • Deconstructed: Bob hunts vampires yet feels that his violent life is not appropriate for a man of God, and leaves the church.
  • Reconstructed: After finding out that his faith and commitment to God makes him practically invincible to the creatures of the night, he returns to the cloth.
  • Played For Laughs: Bob beats up members of local gangs and demands that they go to church on Sunday.
  • Played For Drama: Bob struggles to make amends betwixt his duties as a clergyman and his duties of a vampire hunter.
