Ballad of an Evening Butterfly is a dark, Gothic, and short visual novel by Zig-Zag. It's about the amnesiac Sera Kaoru who wanders in a forest and stumbles upon a ominous, old looking western style mansion. He opens the gate and enters the house and is greeted by a stoic boy clad in black who has black butterflies flies. The boy introduces himself as Yoru Mutsuki. He lets Sera in and gives him a job to do. Which is to occupy a girl locked in a basement. Yoru then gives him the keys to the basement where finds the albino girl in white, Chou. After he finishes this task,Yoru tells him that Chou is a ChouTsuki and Sera was brought to be her sacrifice.

Tropes used in Ballad of an Evening Butterfly include:

• Bishonen: Yoru.
• Ill Girl: Chou, due to her albinism (and she's already weak to the sun because of her species). If she goes out in the sun she will die in five minutes. This is why she lives most of her life in the basement.
• Meaningful Name: Chou ('butterfly'), Asa ('there is')
• Splash of Colour: The entire work is completely monochrome save for the colour red, which shows up in Chou's eyes and blood.
• White-Haired Pretty Girl: Chou, probably because of her albinism.
• Woman in White: Chou is clad in baggy, white clothes which seems to add to her enigma. It also contrasts Yoru who's completly in all black.
• Trademark Favorite Food: Donuts for both Chou and Yoru.
