Beating the Heat is another My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic Fanfic by Andrew J. Talon, he of Progress fame, and co-written by The Sage of Toads and Friendly Uncle. Twilight Sparkle is acting a bit... off, and she's not the only one...

Tropes used in Beating the Heat include:

• Accidental Pornomancer: The Mane 6 are suddenly a lot more attractive to the stallions around Ponyville. Some are more pleased about it than others. *coughFluttershycough*
• Alliteration:

“You firm flanked financially foiling foal!"

• All Mares Are Lustful
• All Stallions Are Perverts
• Anything That Moves: Once Luna snaps, she'll go for anything, male, female or dragon. It doesn't matter who, just so long as she gets laid.
• Babies Ever After: Pinkie Pie and Braeburn.

• Belligerent Sexual Tension: Trixie and The Master. AJ and Soarin' have this as well.
• Berserk Button: Do not call Twilight a virgin.
  • Also, you should never threaten to take all the stallions away from Flutterwhore.
• Beware the Nice Ones: The entire Main six has certain degrees of this. Sexual frustration tends to do that to a pony. That being said, Fluttershy, oh dear Celestia Fluttershy.
• Big No: Rainbow Dash when her old Flight Academy bullies get close to her when she realizes she's in heat.
• Black Comedy Rape: Implied to have happened the last time Fluttershy was in heat. Possibly multiple times from everyponies' reaction.
• Bound and Gagged: Soarin' spends a good deal of the story tied up which he mentions at least once a conversation until he's freed. As members of the Mane 6 are rounded up, they're tied up as well, except for Applejack, who manages to mostly resist the heat.
• Brains and Bondage: Twilight and the Doctor, and, arguably, Rarity and Big Macintosh.
• But I Would Really Enjoy It: Flutterwhore might not like the idea of being sexed up by a thousand horny stallions all at once... But it is something she's imagined.
• Butt Monkey: Poor Spike works so hard in this story and gets absolutely nothing for his troubles, mostly because he's underage and that would be wrong.
  • Badass: But he does get to punch Princess Luna in the face right when she's on the verge of rutting with anyone and everyone.
  • The ending, however, implies that he's leaving with Twilight and Doctor Whooves for an adventure, as while time will pass for them, it won't pass for Ponyville, meaning he can return later a bit older so he can be with Rarity.
• Chekhov's Gun: Several.
  • Chekhov's Boomerang/ Chekhov's Skill: The Sonic Screwdriver can be used to bring a mare to orgasm. The Doctor uses this function on Twilight to keep her occupied. Twilight later uses this on Trixie to subdue her.
• Coitus Ensues: ...Yeah.
• Coitus Uninterruptus: None displayed, but Luna makes her feelings on the matter known when she thinks her Shadowbolts interrupted Pinkie and Braeburn's special moment.

In the midst of their lovemaking?! No matter the change in times, coitus interuptus is a grave offense!

• • Actually played straight when Zecora walks in on Pinkie and Braeburn while they're doing the deed.
• Combat Tentacles: Utilized by Rarity when she ensnares Big Mac, made of cloth, ribbons, ropes, scissors and needles.
• Crack Fic: In its most delectable form.
• Crowd Panic:

"Huh? Okay, Rainbow Dash I can understand, but Fluttershy?" Spike asked incredulously. "How bad could Fluttershy in heat be?" All conversation ceased. Spike blinked. Applejack facehoofed. "Fluttershy... In heat...?" A magenta pony asked, dread in her voice. "RUN FOR THE HILLS! EVERYPONY FOR HERSELF!"'

• Dangerously Genre Savvy: As to quote Neigh Gaiman: "That one (corner) over there, where we would theoretically be out of sight of all the other stallions in attendance?"
• Dark Is Not Evil: Luna's Shadowbolts have been reformed, but they are a special ops force and definitely allied to the forces of good (their actions while in heat notwithstanding)
• Deus Ex Machina: Averted and lampshaded.

"Maybe we should contact Princess Celestia," Spike said. "You know, to come in and fix everything for us?" "We can't just call the Princess in for every little crisis!" Applejack said flatly.

• Deus Sex Machina: The Elements of Harmony are linking the Mane 6 together, Magic is a primal force, and the most basic primal urge is to make BABIES!!!
• Dirty Old Mare: Granny Smith
• Double Standard Rape (Female on Male): Despite the above trope, this is averted, as Fluttershy's forcing herself on other stallions is not portrayed as a good thing. In keeping with this, Rarity later on expresses a little guilt about forcing herself on Big Mac.
• Does This Remind You of Anything?:

“Con. Found. This. Door!” Rarity snarled as she continued to thrust her glowing horn rhythmically into the vault’s lock. “Open, curse you! Open! Your resistance only makes my horn harder!”

• • Later, she even asks for lube.
• The Dreaded: Hilariously, Hornyshy is this.
• Even Evil Has Standards: The Master is perfectly willing to capture, humiliate, and kill the Doctor, but still balks at the prospect of making him his and Trixie's sex slave.
• Everypony Has Lots Of Sex: Mostly played with; everypony affected wants lots of sex, but in order to find and implement a solution the protagonists can't afford to give in to their urges and have to dodge the advances of other ponies as best they can, and those efforts drive much of the story's tension and humor. Ultimately played straight, though with a twist, when the solution is finally implemented.
• Fan Nickname: One pony in particular has quickly gathered a few. Flutterwhore, Pornoshy, Flutterporn, Hornyshy, Sluttershy, Flutterlust take your pick.
• Fast Pie Special: Braeburn and Pinkie Pie while fighting the Shadowbolt captain Nightshade.
• Flat Joy: Fluttershy, characteristically, has this reaction when Big Mac promises to have sex with her
• Frickin' Laser Beams: Averted with the Master's Laser Screwdriver, which does not have a visible beam... Contrary to the canon depiction. It also has heating issues just like a real laser would.
• Genre Savvy: Pinkie Pie.
• The Glomp: Used frequently.
• Guile Hero: The Doctor.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Big Macintosh and Celestia... Sort of.
• Heroic Willpower: How Big Macintosh is able to resist Fluttershy's advances. He slips occasionally.
• Hilarity Ensues
• Hot Scientist / Hot Librarian: Twilight Sparkle.
• Hot Witch: Twilight and Trixie.
• Idiot Hero: Soarin'.
• The Immodest Orgasm
• I Was Quite a Looker: Granny Smith was quite popular back in the day.
  • Which she talks about. In graphic detail. Which AJ does not appreciate.
• Jail Bait Wait: A rare Shotacon version; In the epilogue, Rarity makes it clear to Spike that as soon as he's old enough, she'll be waiting for him.
• Jekyll and Hyde: Fluttershy's horny persona is much crueler and more selfish than how she is normally.

• Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Derpy Hooves.
• Leeroy Jenkins: Dash tries to attack a magically enhanced Trixie several times. The last time, she gets a concussion.
• Look Behind You!: Frequently employed by the Doctor against Twilight, with varying degrees of success.
• Manly Tears: Spike, for Big Mac's "Heroic Sacrifice".
• Noodle Incident: The last time Fluttershy was in heat.
• Oh Crap: The Doctor and Twilight have this reaction when they realize Luna's snapped.
• Only Sane Man: Spike and Applejack.
• Out with a Bang: Fluttershy's victims. At least, that's the implication, considering that she still isn't satisfied after five consecutive matings from a single stallion.
  • Also played scarily straight for a moment in Braeburn's short Imagine Spot in chapter 11.
• Plagiarism in Fiction: The Doctor accuses the Master of ripping off his Sonic Screwdriver.
• Power Perversion Potential: Doctor Whoof's sonic screwdriver can be tuned to certain frequencies that affect a mare's body in a... certain way.

Twilight: Sonic me again! Sonic me again~!

• • Let's not forget Rainbow Dash doing it at supersonic speed.
• Really Gets Around: Granny Smith back in the day. Also Fluttershy when she's in heat.
• Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Averted. An alligator tries to eat Braeburn, but its clear the gator's motives are hunger, not malice. He's also relatively reasonable, and is the one who tells Zecora what's going on.
• Safe, Sane, and Consensual: After Rainbow is still unsatisfied after a Sonic RainOrgasm that leaves them unable to continue, Galland and his men must resort to alternative modes of satisfaction for her. As of chapter ten, we don't know if it worked or not.
• Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Braeburn and Pinkie, Whooves and Twilight. Gender-inverted for Soarin' and Applejack.
• Sex Is Violence: Big Macintosh and Rarity, from the sound of things.
• Shipper on Deck: Trixie certainly likes the thought of the Doctor and Master getting it on.

Trixie: "Whoah...The Great and Powerful Trixie Like."

• Shout-Out: Pinkie Pie chasing down Braeburn is very similar to a certain cartoon skunk's modus operandi.
  • Big Macintosh must save Spike from certain peril!
  • Granny Smith was quite the slut.
  • Rainbow Dash claims to be infected with the T-Virus.

"Duhduhduh," Dumb Bell added. At the curious looks he received from his companions, he shrugged.

• • The four pegasus stallions Celestia gets to deal with Rainbow Dash's heat are named Galland (After World War Two German ace pilot Adolf Galland), Thatch (For John Smith "Jimmy" Thach, US Navy pilot and inventor of the Thach Weave), Mustang (For the World War Two United States Army Air Force's definitive Cool Plane, as well as being an NCO who plans to become an officer), and Zero (The famous World War Two Imperial Japanese Navy Cool Plane).
    • Mustang quotes The Lonely Island song "3-Way".
      • Speaking of Mustang, he says the miniskirts line from Full Metal Alchemist.
    • It should also be noted that they have flown air combat over Wolfenstein.
  • "And... I'm spent."
  • From Chapter 8:

Rarity: And now she seeks to have all the stallions to herself, and therefore take over the world! Pinkie Pie: OF COURSE!

• • Chapter 9's Studly Stallion Convention has Neigh Gaiman and Terry Prancechett
  • Chapter 10 has Spike quote Apocalypse Now and Rarity quote Planet of the Apes.
  • The Studly Stallion convention has shout outs to a lot of things. For example, one of the stallions there is a model named Hansel.
    • Another pony there is a Neighponese chef named Kaga judging a cooking contest.
  • Chapter 13 has Trixie getting soniced and screaming,

“AAHHHH! EEEEYAHAHHH! OH SETH YESSSS!”

• • While the Master makes use of the Simms Master's laser screwdriver, the Doctor taunts him about copying the sonic screwdriver rather than using his signature weapon from before the revived series, the Tissue Compression Eliminator first used in "Terror of the Autons".
• Smells Sexy: Any filly in heat to a male.
• Squick: AJ's reaction to Granny Smith discussing her past.
• Stable Time Loop: The Doctor is implied to have established this to maintain the events of his appearance in Call of the Cutie. He even got a cold to explain his changed voice. Also functions as a Call Back.
• Stealth Pun: "Tart" is used as a slang term for a woman who Really Gets Around, like Granny Smith did in her youth. And what is her cutie mark? An apple tart.
• Tempting Fate:

"Ah'd better get this resolved right quick," Applejack said aloud. "Twilight'll be able to sort this out." After all, what were the odds she had been hit by heat too? That'd be about as ridiculous as Fluttershy getting hit, and then they'd be in real trouble...

• • Rarity has been making an unfortunate habit out of this.
• A Threesome Is Manly: "Besides, it's not gay if it's a threeway," Mustang intoned sagely. "Or five way... as long as there's a mare in the middle." Rainbow Dash is a lucky filly.
• Too Kinky to Torture: Galland.
