Bee-Nevolent

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Bee-Nevolent is a Miraculous Ladybug fanfic written by TwinklingCupcake on fanfiction.net and AO3, based on the idea of who the Bee Miraculous owner could be.

But this time it goes to one of the more unusual suspects: Sabrina.

When Sabrina receives the Bee Comb one evening after a less than stellar day, she's really not sure if it's the right decision. She's too average, too plain, not hero material, and has done quite a few bad things in the past. But after one night of freedom as the bee hero, Honeycomb, Sabrina decides to keep the Miraculous and keep her hero self a secret, using the Miraculous's power to give herself some much-needed happiness.

Unfortunately for her, she's caught on camera that same night and now pretty much all of Paris knows about Honeycomb. And she's having some trouble in her real life, trouble far worse than any Akuma: Chloe.

Tropes used in Bee-Nevolent include:
  • Adorkable: Sabrina
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The story opens with five-year-old Sabrina at her first day of kindergarten, and follows her through her childhood up to the present day.
  • Body Horror: Princesse Abeille's hive army have large, black compound eyes like insects and are constantly buzzing/humming.
  • Foreshadowing: Hanii tells Sabrina that a Glamour will hide her identity as Honeycomb; nobody will know who she is unless she transforms/de-transforms right in front of them. Come chapter nine, Honeycomb drops the transformation in front of Ladybug, Chat Noir, and an Akuma-tized Chloe.
  • Glamour: Miraculous users are able to hide their identities this way. Hanii explicitly calls it such, too.
  • Guilt Complex: Sabrina is still ashamed at herself for some of the things she did in canon, specifically helping to steal Marinette's hat design and locking Juleka in a bathroom. While in canon, Chloe was more to blame, Sabrina thinks she deserves more of it because she believes Chloe apologized while Sabrina never did.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every chapter is named after a song title.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Sabrina would like friends besides Chloe, and hopes as Honeycomb she can befriend Ladybug and Chat Noir.
  • In a Single Bound: Honeycomb effortlessly leaps from the Eiffel Tower to a far-away building.
  • It's All My Fault: Hanii feels responsible for Sabrina being taken prisoner in chapter ten, rationing that if she hadn't pressed Sabrina to stand up to Chloe, it wouldn't have happened.
  • Late for School: Chapter two. Sabrina's alarm fails to sound due to a power outage in the night, and she wakes up too late to get ready for school.
  • Mini-Dress of Power: Honeycomb's costume is a mini-dress over leggings.
  • Nonuniform Uniform: Instead of spandex or leather suit, Honeycomb wears a mini-dress. She also has a visor resembling insectoid eyes rather than a Domino Mask.
  • Odd Name Out: Unlike the canon heroes, Honeycomb isn't named after an animal specifically, but something associated with it.
  • Oh Crap: Sabrina freaks out when she discovers her leap (as Honeycomb) was caught on camera.
  • OC Stand-In: Hanii, the bee kwami.
  • Pet The Dog: When Sabrina has a panic attack in the bathroom, Rose comes to check on her and offers her juice to make her feel better. Afterwards, Nino and Marinette both ask if she's feeling okay.
  • Precision F-Strike: Chloe drops one in chapter 8.
    • Chloe: "My dad just woke me up, at this fucking hour..."
  • Punny Name: The bee kwami, Hanii. As in "honey."
  • Refusal of the Call: Sabrina tries to reject the Bee Comb, saying there are people much more suitable for it than herself. Hanii convinces her otherwise.
  • School Bullying Is Harmless: Averted. Chloe's bullying of Sabrina might be subtler, but the effects have lasted all the way to present, leaving a nervous, shy, self-depreciating Sabrina. Similarly, Sabrina acknowledges that she'd badly hurt Juleka by locking her in the bathroom.
  • Shrinking Violet: Sabrina again.
  • Tear Tropes: Sabrina sheds quite a few tears, including...
  • The Masquerade: Hanii explains that Miraculous cast a glamour over their wielders so no one will recognize them when in costume.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Pretty much the whole fic.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Like all kwami, Hanii has a particular favorite food. In her case, flower petals, especially from roses. In real life, rose petals are indeed edible and used in quite a few recipes and as decoration for pastries.
  • With Friends Like These...: Chloe treats Sabrina like a servant and doesn't care one whit about her as a person.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Said verbatim to Sabrina by Hanii.
