Beyond the Impossible/Comic Books

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Events in Comics that are not possible. Only list examples that fit the description!

  • Red Hulk raised Thor's hammer by jumping into space.
  • The Guardians of the Green Lantern Corps made sure that it would be physically impossible for a Lantern to kill one of them. When Hal Jordan kills Krona they are shocked and afraid.
  • As any Thor reader knows, beating Volstagg in an eating contest is impossible yet Fat Cobra can do it anyway.
  • Italian comic Sturmtruppen and the Epic Fail of its firing squad tries to execute a prisoner. They managed to miss him and hit the wall behind him while he was holding their rifles pressed directly against his chest.
  • The Infinity Gauntlet: Thanos' battle with the heroes of Earth is one of the few times Captain America's shield has been broken, something normally impossible. All other times have been done by high level cosmic forces (and repaired by them as well) usually those of Asgard.
  • Scott's normal combo ends in a Shoryuken in Scott Pilgrim vs The World. This is mainly because, as an Idiot Hero, Scott's fighting style is copied from fighting games and this is especially awesome because, even as a normal person his Shoryuken still envelop his hand in hand flames..
  • Black Flash from The Flash; the mere existence of this being might enforce this Trope. Several heroes who draw power from the Speed Force - including Max Mercury and Jesse Quick - have had Near-Death Experiences where they were chased by this undead entity, leading to a theory that those who possess the Speed Force can actually outrun Death, requiring whoever is in charge to create a special version of the Grim Reaper with Speed Force powers of its own. Despite this, Wally West (whose expertise at the Speed Force is likely unmatched) was able to outrun Black Fash, defeating the entity by racing it all the way to the End of Time - in a place where Death as a concept has no meaning, the Black Flash becomes powerless and dissipates.
    • This fits the Trope even more if you apply the theory that Black Flash is a dark aspect of the Speed Force - it would mean the Flash can literally outrun an embodiment of Speed.
  • In the original version of The Smurfs, Harmony Smurf's music is so bad, he can even cause a music box to sound horrible. In both the comic and animated series, the racket from his horn can literally wake the dead, as it freed the other Smurfs from a curse of endless sleep that had no known cure.
