Fridge Horror

• "Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure" is not a movie generally associated with Nightmare Fuel. However, think for a moment about the historical figures they bring to our time. They had Abraham Lincoln and Joan of Arc with them. The latter was burned at the stake at the age of seventeen; and judging by the fact that in the movie she's already cut her hair, that time is fast approaching. Bill and Ted were giving a history report. That means they must have known what was going to happen to her...and they sent her back anyway. And what about Abe Lincoln? It's not quite as bad as in Joan's case, since instead of being imprisoned for a year and then burned alive he was shot in the head and likely felt little to no pain. But still. A bit of warning might not have been amiss!
  • Not to mention Socrates and his cup of hemlock.
    • According to tradition, Socrates had been given a choice. He could either be exiled from Athens forever or drink the poison. He chose the latter because that's how badass he was.
  • My God, I didn't think of that!
  • However, you could say the same thing of any time-traveler (Doctor Who included). Why they don't warp to Titanic and give that baby one big turn and avert collision, why they don't warn folks like Lincoln and Joan of Arc that if they do xyz, they're gonna die. Perhaps they know, subconsciously, that there are fixed moments in time; that no matter how badly you'd want to change them, they must happen.
• Well, besides the fact that Bill & Ted were not exactly, well, "history buffs", you could easily assume that they in fact did NOT know what was going to happen to Joan D'Arc after they sent her back. Not to mention all of these people had already been dead hundreds if not thousands of years before Bill or Ted were ever even born. Theres also the whole thing about altering the known past causing the perfect peaceful future they were given a glimpse of to never will have occurringed. (thats the future past-imperfect possiparticiple tense)
  • • Consider this: Lincoln and Joan d'Arc had seen what our time period looks like. Joan D'Arc likely saw the map of the world with France still on it (She doesn't have to understand English to know where her own country is), and every part of it French. Lincoln saw an America without slavery. If Bill and Ted later took them aside and said, "Hey, if you do XYZ, then you will die. So, please do not do XYZ, okay?" they would likely not listen. Why? Because they would have likely concluded that it was their deaths that allowed this world to happen and accept it anyway.
