Broken Sword/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Breakthrough Hit: Revolution has been recognized because of the first two games.
  • Christmas Rushed: The Serpent's Curse was never intended to be split in two episodes. Revolution released that game in December 2013 to fulfill their promise to their fans who backed in the Kickstarter as well as to get income in holiday season.
  • Contest Winner Cameo: In The Serpent's Curse, Kat and Adam are based on two Kickstarter contributor's interests.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Emma Tate voices as young Tiago Marques in The Serpent's Curse.
  • Executive Meddling: The Sleeping Dragon and The Angel of Death had a fair share of meddlings. Revolution wanted to create those games in 2D, but publishers and retailers demanded that they should be in 3D.
    • As for the third game, the reason why there are lots of crate puzzles is that there's a lack of general time and funding pressures to create the game.
  • Fake Nationality: With the exception of George and Broken Sword 4!Nico, most of the supporting characters are played by British voice actors and actresses.
  • Fan Nickname: Some fans called the stealth segments in The Sleeping Dragon and The Angel of Death as Metal Gear Stobbart.
  • Franchise Zombie: The series had originally been designed as a trilogy with The Sleeping Dragon intended as the finale, but fans persuaded to create another sequel which was The Angel of Death. The fan reception, however, had negative to mixed reviews after its release.
  • Milestone Celebration: The Angel of Death was released in 2006, the franchise's 10th anniversary.
  • No Export for You: The PS2 version of The Sleeping Dragon is only exclusive to Europe and Japan only. At least people in US territories are able to play that in XBox version.
    • The rest of the games, sans The Sleeping Dragon and The Serpent's Curse, are not released in Japan.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: In The Serpent's Curse, ten fans had an opportunity to interview George by sending their questions via voicemail. The interview is an Easter Egg that can be found in Castell del Sants.
  • The Other Darrin: Several secondary characters whose original voice actors were either dead or unavailable.
    • The most notable is Nico's English voice. She has been voiced by a different actress in each game: Hazel Ellerby in The Shadow of the Templars and Director's Cut, Jenny Caron Hall in The Smoking Mirror, Sarah Crook in The Sleeping Dragon, Katherine Pageon in The Angel of Death (also known as Secrets of the Ark), and Emma Tate in The Serpent's Curse.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Kelly Willoughby was a huge fan of Broken Sword series and wrote letters to Revolution several times that she wanted to work in a Broken Sword game. She was hired as a producer in The Serpent's Curse.
  • The Red Stapler: Many fans learned about the The Knights Templar and appreciate goats just because they played the first game.
  • Relationship Voice Actor: Rolf Saxon and Hazel Ellerby are friends and schoolmates in real life. Hazel is the one who asked Rolf to play as a main character.
  • Sequel Gap: The Sleeping Dragon came out six years after The Smoking Mirror.
    • Excluding the remakes of the first two games, The Serpent's Curse was released seven years later after The Angel of Death.
  • Talking to Himself: In the second game, Rolf Saxon also voices a goat in Quaramonte City.
    • In Director's Cut, Hazel Ellerby plays both as Nico and Imelda Carchon.
  • Tribute to Fido: Subverted. Trevor the cockroach is named after the ex-boyfriend of a staff in Revolution.
  • Voices in One Room: In The Sleeping Dragon, the voices were recorded with the voice actors together enabling better acting and interaction.
