Camberwick Green

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

"Here is a box, a musical box, wound up and ready to play. But this box can hide a secret inside. Can you guess what is in it today?"

Camberwick Green is a 1966 cartoon about a toy box, which opens to reveal a world of people, who are splendid, called Camberwick Green and is the first cartoon to be in true colour, even though Hanna-Barbera have bet that, under Technicolour.

Some people may think this is Nightmare Fuel, but some may think that this show compares favorably with The Herbs. And the style resembles Postman Pat.

There's a baker, who bakes delicious cakes for 5 coins, called Mickey Murphy, not to be confused with Mickey Mouse.

Mr Murphy is a master baker,
Pudding pies and pastry maker,
Biscuits buns or birthday cake,
Everything is marvellous that Murphy makes.

A man, who works in a windmill, is called Windy, who lives on a farm, and makes his own beer.

Windy Miller, Windy Miller sharper than a thorn,
Like a mouse he's spry and nimble when he grinds the corn.
Like a bird he'll watch the wind and listen for the sound,
Which says he has the wind he needs to make the sails go round.

Windy's rival, Farmer Jonathan Bell, also works on a farm, and has invented his own milk machine. He often annoys Windy. Apparently, they like each other.

A go ahead farmer is Jonathan Bell
Who works his farm and he works it well
He doesn't hold much with the good old days.
In modern times use modern ways.
Electric mechanical all that is new
Which does the work that men used to do.
He swears by it all and he proves it too
On his modern mechanical farm.
