Camp Buddy

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Camp Buddy is a Boys Love Visual Novel by BLits. The official game was released on Sunday, November 11, 2018.

Keitaro and his best friend Hiro join the summer scout 'Camp Buddy', making new friends out of the colorful casts of the members.

However, the unknown divisions threaten to close the camp down, and it is up to Keitaro to find out the cause and stop it before everything is too late while also perhaps romancing one the members and finding a boyfriend at the same time. No matter the option, this summer is going to be the one that he won't be able to forget easily.

The main game is currently released. An expansion pack featuring Taiga as the fifth love interest and Yoshinori as the main protagonist will be released at later date.

Tropes used in Camp Buddy include:
  • Acceptable Breaks From Reality: The boys' young appearance for a 18 years old can be somewhat justified as not everyone has finished growing at that age.
  • Always Someone Better: Natsumi's brother, Naoto, is better than him in many ways from his interpersonal skill, intellect, and charm, giving him a major inferiority complex. In his route, Keitaro has to help him come to term with this, and help Natsumi accepts who he is.
  • A Date with Rosie Palms: Being a H-game, this is inevitable.
    • After seeing his camp mates in bath, Keitaro becomes so aroused that he has to masturbate in the shower.
    • From the preview CG, Keitaro can catch Taiga engaging in this during the Beach Episode.
    • In another scene on Taiga route, he and Keitaro can engage in this together after the SportFest.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Taiga's group, with Eduard as Beauty, Lee as Brain, and Taiga himself as Brawn.
  • Biggus Dickus: Goro is very hung and is fully displayed in his swimsuit. This has not gone unlampshaded by Aiden.
  • Bland-Name Product: Website variation.
    • Lewdtube for Youtube(.com).
    • Buttreon for Patreon(.com).
  • Cast Full of Gay: Apart from the only female Yuri, everyone else is apparently only interested in guys.
  • Color-Coded Characters - Each character has distinctive hair/eyes color and wears a matching scout outfit.
    • Keitaro - Green
    • Hiro - Orange
    • Hunter - Yellow
    • Yoichi - Purple
    • Natsumi - Blue
    • Taiga - Red
    • Yuri - Pink
    • Aiden - Dark Green
    • Goro - Gray
    • Felix - White
  • Double Entendre: Many
  • Foil: Taiga is set up as one for Keitaro, from their personalities to weather motif.
  • Foreshadowing: Some of the early choices in the story foreshadow the corresponded route character's issue which is revealed in the Act 4.
    • There are several choices during the SportFest about Keitaro saying that his campmates are like his family which correspond to Yoichi's affection, hinting at the latter issue regarding parental abandonment.
    • When Goro questions about Keitaro's reason for enrolling in Camp Buddy, the answer that Keitaro selects will leaves the him wonder about it being too shallow. The one corresponds to Natsumi is tied to his inferiority complex issue.
  • Fun with Acronyms: The Federation of United Camping Boy Scouts is shortened as FUCBoyS. Not so subtle..
  • Gender Blender Name: Natsumi
  • Going Commando: Aiden does not wear any underwear beneath his highly elaborate and skimpy Pharaoh costume.
  • Golden Ending:
  • Grandpa, What Massive Hotness You Have!: Goro. His hair is going white, he already has a full grown daughter, but he is still as fit, handsome, and hung as (if not more than) Yoshinori and Aiden. Yoichi also seems to think it this way, occassionally call him "Silverfox".
  • Guide Dang It: Getting the perfect ending toward each routes require the love interest's relationship point to be above 100, which isn't easy thanks to many of the choices being rather ambiguous.
    • The foreplay minigame. Good luck in winning without using the guide.
    • The "cheating" event, which is basically Earn Your Bad Ending.
  • In-Series Nickname: Shintaro and Leonard go by the nickname of Seto and Lee respectively.
  • Hunk: Yoshinori, Aiden, and Goro are rather muscular compared to the boys and are highly attractive.
  • A Man Is Not a Virgin: Played with. The game generally makes it ambiguous how much (real) sexual experience each of the characters had prior to the story.
    • Keitaro himself appears to have some knowledge regarding sexual activities, yet becomes easily aroused when seeing his camp mates in the bath.
    • Hunter have certain amount of (book) knowledge in the subject, but his upbringing means that he never had any close friend, let alone boyfriend.
    • Natsumi is clearly naive in the subject, requiring him to go do some research about it in his route prior to the Beach Episode.
    • Hiro has Single-Target Sexuality toward Keitaro.
    • While Yoichi is the most knowledgable and skilled in the subject, his anti-social personality, along with his familial relationship with Yuki likely prevented him from hitting on with anyone in and out of the camp.
  • Mood Whiplash: The game can go anywhere from comedic to serious moments and vice versa.
    • The campers passing around a nude photo of Goro supposedly taken by Keitaro almost resulting in him getting expelled.
    • The light hearted off-season Halloween at the end of Act 3 is quickly eclipsed by various heartbreaking moment for the love interests in Act 4.
  • Mr. Fanservice:
    • Yoichi serves as the game main fanservice attendant due to his noticeably more muscular build among the boys and his tendency to get out of clothes whenever possible. Majority of his outfits are highly Stripperiffic in nature.
    • While Taiga may be on the lean side, his choice of wardrobe rivals Yoichi in term of skimpiness.
  • Naked Apron - Courtesy of Aiden, who serves the boys meal while dressing in one.
    • Hiro also wears one in during the event on his route.
  • One Scene, Two Monologues: The two "crack scenes" which feature Yoichi/Hiro and Natsumi/Hunter pairings are the same sex scenes with different dialogues and context depending on the route. Also, some random scenes are just the same scenes replayed differently, with Yoichi's dog death existing in other routes but not show in detail except in Yoichi Route.
  • OOC Is Serious Business: During the first night of camping at the prairies, Yuri refrains from her usual BL fan tendency (aka Foe Yay shipping) and instead remains calm and serious while providing Keitaro emotional support regarding his relationship with Taiga, hinting that the latter is currently having a serious problem.
    • Yoichi is anti-social, yet he enrolled in the camp far longer than anyone including Natsumi.
  • The Rival: Taiga is the self-proclaimed version for Keitaro.
  • Shout Out: Yoichi gives Yoshinori the nickname "Sheriff Brokeback" after Aiden (accidently?) revealed that he and the latter slept naked together in the same tent during the beach trip. Given that Yoichi is right in his hunch about the characters' romantic moments and Yuri's thoughts every time, along with Yoshinori's hinted emotional dependent on Aiden, this may not be far from the truth .
  • The Smurfette Principle: Yuri is the only major female character in this game, and a Yaoi Fangirl to boots.
  • Stripperiffic: As noted by Keitaro, Yoichi's choice of swimsuit is rather small for his size, and thus doesn't really cover up much. More so in Taiga's case, since his is a low-cut bikini pant.
  • Those Two Guys: Lee and Eduard, Taiga's lackeys. Also, Seto and Felix.
  • Your Cheating Heart: The player can enforce this trope by reducing the character's affection level to below 0 after entering their route post SportFest. This will result in said character cheats with another love interest (Hiro with Yoichi, and Hunter with Natsumi) and, unsurprisingly, a bad ending.
