Captain America: The Winter Soldier (film)

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
What if there's a SHIELD inside the SHIELD?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a 2014 movie directed by Joseph and Anthony Russo. It is the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger and the ninth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Set after the events of The Avengers, Steve Rogers is still struggling to adjust to the new times, working with S.H.I.E.L.D. to battle new global threats as Captain America. Then S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury gets assassinated by the mysterious metal-armed assassin known as Winter Soldier, and Steve finds that are even severe dangers within, and goes on the run to discover the truth with Black Widow in town.

Chris Evans reprises his role as Captain America, joined by Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Sebastian Stan as the titular Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, Frank Grillo as Agent Brock Rumlow, and Georges St-Pierre as Batroc the Leaper.

It was followed by Avengers: Age of Ultron and Civil War.

Tropes used in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (film) include:
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade:
    • Winter Soldier's knife cuts through the side of a van. Then again, it could be more due to his cybernetic arm providing the necessary force than the knife's sharpness alone.
    • Cap's shield becomes even bigger one, cutting through metal without any sharp edge, purely on its indestructibility and Cap's raw strength.
  • Action Girl: Sharon Carter, Maria Hill, and Black Widow in increasing order.
  • Badass Driver: Fury can perfectly maneuver himself around a road while fighting and dodging assassins in cars.
  • Badass Normal: The MCU version of Batroc has no enhancements or special technology and still exchanges blows with Rogers, which is enhanced by a super-serum.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy:The Winter Soldier's problem.
  • The Cameo: Stan Lee as the Museum guard, who later on in the movie, realizes that he's so fired. When Steve stolen the Captain America clothes off of the display.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Black Widow and Nick Fury are constantly dressed on black but are not villainous, if a bit anti-heroic.
  • Hoist By His Own Petard: The assassins that come to kill Fury forget an armored window go both ways while crushing it, and get shot when the window becomes weak enough that Fury can shoot through it.
  • Hope Spot: Fury seems to have dodged all threats to his life when the titular Winter Soldier appears right in front of him in the road and shoots a magnetic bomb in the direction of his car. Subverted when he does manage to run away anyway with a tool that melts the ground underneath him, creating a hole for him to escape.
  • Law of Conservation of Detail: The special attention gives to Barnes during the segment on the museum hints his fate is somehow important. Turns out he is the Winter Soldier, cryogenically frozen and brainwashed to serve as an H.Y.D.R.A. assassin.
  • Married to the Job: When Natasha first brings up a girl that Rogers could date, he brings up being too busy as reason to not even try.
  • Mistaken for Racist: Fury assumes he is being pulled over by cops for being black and being on a luxurious car, but instead they are assassins out to kill him.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Form-fitting latex suit plus cleavage window makes Black Widow a pretty clear example of it.
  • The Not Love Interest: Despite being a redhead, fanservice source, female lead which is constantly around him and even teases him about his romantic life, Natasha and Rogers actually keep a pretty platonic friendship.
  • Reality Ensues: Fury suddenly stops after being alerted by his car's computer before an intersection of a busy street of a large metropolis during daylight, while his assassins are too occupied trying to kill him. Cue them being hit by a passing truck.
