Clone High/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Crosses the Line Twice: The way Ponce de Leon dies. It involves lots and lots of litter. And so much blood.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Van Gogh. After the first episode he only ever appeared in cameos, but it's not hard to find fanart of him.
  • Fountain of Memes: JFK is the most quotable character.
  • Fridge Horror: Why would the secret board of shadowy directors clone Hitler?
    • Hey, the guy was a Complete Monster, but he was also an extremely charismatic leader, which seems to be something the board would want to harness...
    • With how the other clones turned out, he was likely a tireless worker for world peace and equality.
  • Fridge Logic: To make a clone of someone, you need their DNA. There's a clone of Jesus. Where did they find Jesus's DNA?
    • Fridge Brilliance: they didn't have Jesus' DNA. Note that whatever your beliefs on Jesus' racial background, it's highly unlikely that He was of Latino American descent as depicted in Clone High. Venturing into Wild Mass Guessing territory, the likeliest explanation is that he was cloned from the suspect DNA of the Shroud of Turin.
    • In the third episode, A.D.D.: The Last 'D' is for Disorder, it's revealed Joan of Arc wears a retainer. Wouldn't that mean the original Joan of Arc had a deformed upper jaw? What makes it worse is that she says 'If this causes an overbite, [Gandhi], you're so dead.'
    • Maybe they found a genuine nail, thorny crown, or bit of cross?
    • To think of it, a lot of historical figures' DNA would be rather impossible to obtain. Joan of Arc for example, not only was burned at a stake, but her remains were then burned again(twice!) and thrown in a river to make sure there was nothing left of her.
    • Cleo is incredibly hot even though the real Cleopatra was ugly. Then again, she's rich, so maybe she got surgery.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The caption at the end of the finale: "To Be Continued...?!"
  • Hollywood Homely: Joan, however some characters do seem to realize she's attractive before her reveal of Beautiful All Along. Heavily inverted with Marie Curie, who is hideous yet no one treats her any differently.
  • Indians Hate Gandhi, and I never thought I'd say that.
    • More specifically, Indians dislike the portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi in this show as a shallow, petty individual who easily caves to peer pressure and shallow whims. However, it's wholly justified due to Clone!Gandhi caving under the pressure to be the perfect paragon that the original Gandhi was. This is the main theme of the show.
  • Ho Yay: Well, JFK's foster-parents are a gay couple, plus there's JFK's crush on "John Dark". And his best friend forever Ponce in episode 10, complete with break-up and incessant weeping and crawling into the coffin. And then Abe holds him on the Thinking Dock.
    • Most Ho Yay of all, Gandhi's kiss with Abe in the episode "A.D.D.: The Last 'D' is for Disorder". Played for Laughs, but Gandhi still payed him for it, implying he liked it. Or he's stupid.
    • Let's not forgot when Joan dressed up as a guy named John, and Cleo's attention.
  • Memetic Mutation: STAMOOOOOOOS!
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Manson ripping his own chest open.
    • Also, Poncey finally dying by DROWNING IN HIS OWN BLOOD.
    • Abe constantly slicing his mouth open in the Snowflake Day special.
    • Nostradamus's attempt at asking Helen of Troy to the prom... by bursting out of a horse's chest and holding up a horse fetus which actually asks her for him.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In one episode, Joan disguises herself as a guy named John with just a fake mustache. How did the other clones, including Abe, caught that right away?
  • Tear Jerker: Litter Kills; Literally. Half of the episode is just JFK in mourning over Ponce's death. The last shot is also quite poignant.
    • The finale.
  • This Is Your Premise on Drugs: Used for a joke
