Crowning Moment of Funny: At the beginning of the book, Grandpa accidentally flips a pancake right onto his grandson Henry's head.
Crowning Music of Awesome: The theme Raining Sunshine sung by Miranda Cosgrove. It also has a different Japanese theme song.
- The music that plays when Flint is building his machine for the first time, before it blows up.
Does This Remind You of Anything?: Swallow Falls seems to be based off of Flint, Michigan.
Ear Worm: It's raining sunshine... it's raining sunshiiiiine... as sung by Miranda Cosgrove.
- And although it predates the film by several decades, "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" does have a tendency to get stuck in one's head after seeing the movie.
Ensemble Darkhorse: "STEVE!"
Esoteric Happy Ending: Subverted. You would think that the destruction still on several places, mainly the tourist attraction areas, might be this, but they dealt with this in the end credits.
Expy: Compare Flint to Flik. They even have similar names.
- Flint also looks a little bit like Stu Pickles. And both are inventors.
Fan Disservice: Brent, when stripping. Also, he has quite a bit of jiggling in the car.
First Installment Wins: Readers of the second book, Pickles to Pittsburgh, don't think of it as highly as they do the first.
Freud Was Right: The FLDSMDFR inside the meateroid. A long white marshmallow...thing which builds up a giant amount of pressure, then releases a gigantic storm of food into an undulating star-shaped hole. Alright, it's food, but even the least dirty of the dirtiest minds can still detect something vaguely...disturbing.
Moe: Sam.
Nausea Fuel: If 90 minutes of food doesn't eventually make you feel sick to the stomach, the mayor will.

Mayor: "Everybody is going to love these new portion sizes." *shoves a giant hot dog into his mouth* "I know I do."

- Speaking of which, the obese version of the Mayor is constantly glistening with sweat.
Nightmare Fuel: Particularly during the third act, when the food machine goes haywire. The food machine gets covered in a gigantic "meatball", and the heroes have to travel inwards through the chasms of mutated food a la Armageddon to defeat the machine. The Mayor's obesity also applies, to many.
- Also, Steve fights the gummy bears- he rams his hand into it, RIPS OUT ITS "HEART", and EATS IT!
  - And that's to say nothing of the giant mutant roast chickens hanging from the ceiling that devoured Brent.
  - Who then proceeds to reposition himself inside the presumably live roast chicken and wear it as a suit.
- YMMV, but...the entire movie.
Tear Jerker: Three words. "This is junk."
- The opening scene is pretty heartbreaking.

Flint: I wanted to run away that day...but you can't run away from your own feet."

- Flint's father solemnly grinding sardines into chum, because he doesn't know what else to do.
Ugly Cute: The ratbirds
Uncanny Valley: Of food, amazingly enough. It's very detailed, but it's strange to see it so big.
Unnecessary Makeover: Inverted. Sam wears her glasses and puts her hair in a ponytail for the last half of the movie. Plays straight, though, as Flint is more attracted to her after the change.
Visual Effects of Awesome: Admit it. You might not see it the first time you see the movie, but you will eventually realize how real some of that stuff looks.
What an Idiot!: The Mayor. Thanks for threatening the entire world just so you can have an all-you-can-eat buffet, jackass!
What Do You Mean It's Not Awesome?: Flint throughout the film. He narrates all of his action scenes.
What the Hell, Casting Agency?: Where else are you going to find Anna Faris as a brainy weather girl in a movie with an amazingly cast Mr. T and an almost unnoticeable Neil Patrick Harris?
