Continuing Is Painful/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Played Straight: After dying, all the temporary powerups are lost, but you may try again.
  • Exaggerated: All temporary and permanent powerups are lost, you can't get them back, you lose 10% of your stats, and you don't receive the special powerup for defeating the boss because your rating is too low.
  • Downplayed: You are forced to sit though a 15 second lecture of why you suck before you continue with everything you had before you died.
  • Justified: A new ship won't have all the upgraded features of the old one.
  • Subverted: The process of being resurrected cause you to be Cursed With Awsome
  • Double Subverted: ... however you are prohibited from gaining special powers from defeated bosses.
  • Inverted: Death Is a Slap on The Wrist
  • Parodied: The boss comes back to life for round 2, but is much weaker due to being resurrected.
  • Averted: The game does not have the concept of death or game over.
  • Deconstructed: We could punish you for dying by stripping your powers, but that would just further frustrate you.
  • Reconstructed: The convience price for not having to start over, is that the game will be harder now.
  • Zig Zaged: Dying is usually a minor inconvience, unless you do so during the final boss, but beating the final boss after continuing is needed to fight the true final boss.
  • Enforced: One way we can up the difficulty without going so far as Final Death is to punish the players for dying.
  • For Laughs: After dying, you get to continue with your comrades constantly bantering you about how you failed.
  • For Drama: Dying doesn't make the rest of the game harder, it just requires you to make a Deal with the Devil and gives you a worse ending.
  • Lampshaded: The briefing before the mission reminds you of the conquences of failure. "Failure is an option, but you ain't going to like it."
  • Exploited: Although your powerups are removed, due to a bug, the level time is reset allowing for an easy way to get a recorded fast time.
  • Defied: "Game Over, Continue?" NO! I'm just going to load my game.
