Cranial Eruption/Playing With

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Basic Trope: A character gets hit on the head and gains a bump there.

  • Straight: Bob gets hit with a coconut and gains a large, pink bump on his head.
  • Exaggerated: Bob gets hit with several coconuts and several bumps appear.
  • Downplayed: Bob gets hit with a toy hammer and a suitably tiny bump grows.
  • Justified: ???
  • Inverted: Bob gets hit by a coconut - and a bump appears on the coconut.
  • Subverted: Bob gets hit with an insanely large coconut and a bump appears ... but he pushes it back in.
  • Double Subverted: ... But then it comes back at the end of the episode.
  • Parodied:
    • The bump grows somewhere else...
    • Bob, a midget, hits himself on the head to gain access to a carnival ride.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob gets hit with a coconut and a bump appears ... but the he shoves back in. Only for it to pop up again! ... And he shoves it back in as well. But then it pops up once more! ...
  • Averted: No bumps appear at all.
  • Enforced: "We need a way to show the impact was painful!"
  • Lampshaded: "Why is this bump on my head?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: Alice throws a coconut at Bob in order to expose his disguise.
  • Defied: Bob dodges every possible head injury (possibly becoming Properly Paranoid).
  • Discussed: "Did that look painful? Just wait 'til a bump appears."
  • Conversed: "Why do bumps always appear after head injuries in cartoons?"
