Crayon Shin-chan/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Despite the impression the show, Japanese or otherwise, may give you, it contains one of the most, if not the most, touching moment I've ever seen in any anime. In the movie, The Storm Called: The Adult Empire Strikes Back, a new attraction has opened up in Kasukabe where adults can go to relive things from their past from old events to starring as characters in renditions of their favorite anime series. The leader of this group activates the nostalgic scent of the 20th century which brainwashes all the adults into coming there to stay, being in fantasy mode all the time, and abandoning their responsibilities out in the real world including their jobs and children. After a very well animated chase scene between the grunts and the Kasukabe Defense Force, Shinnosuke finds Hiroshi at a recreation of the World's Fair he'd gone to as a child, and the memory has fully regressed him to his childhood with his father and mother around. Shin uses the far more powerful scent of Hiroshi's shoes to pull him back to reality, which gives us a montage to music of Hiroshi growing up, getting his job, meeting Misae, having Shin, and leading a tough, but rich family life. It's ends with this:

Shin: "Dad. Do you remember me?"
Hiroshi: "Yes." *tearfully embraces his son* "Yes."

  • Every Crayon Shinchan movie has a heart warming moment. While his TV counterpart does have his moments (described below), Shinchan is an outright hero in the movies, putting himself in really risky situations to save his parents and the world. No wonder its been consistently rated as one of the most heartwarming animes in Japan and produces multiple movies that are adored by fans.
  • After his mom scolds him for dirtying his clothes again, he stands in the rain trying not to do so again. However, he saves a little frog from getting run over, getting wet as a result. He expects a scolding from Misae again, only to see her smile at him, having seen the event. He also jumps into his mother's chest to protect her from getting wet (wetting his mom's clothes by proxy, but it's the thought that counts)
  • When Masao's plan to have a love run with Ai predictably fails, he cheerfully says he'll have a love run with him. Masao ends up crying in his chest, and Shin pets his head to console him.
  • After The Flame leaves the kindergarten forever, Shin walks around when he sees Nene crying in the bushes (she just fell in love with him and couldn't tell him). He pets her head and tells her it's okay. Nene thanks him for this.
    • Before that, Ai-chan puts aside her rivalry with her to genuinely help her. It's quite the feels to see Ai-chan as more than just a simple Rich Bitch.
  • Many moments prove Shin and Kazama are undoubtedly best friends underneath all their quarrels, but no one more so than episode 553: Kazama had ditched him in favor of his elite "friends", who insulted him. Kazama suffers a Trauma Conga Line as a consequence, being humiliated and abandoned by his so-called "friends" in the rain. Shin sees him and helps him without second thoughts, not showing ill-will towards Kazama'a actions the day before (he didn't remember them, but that's besides the point). This makes Kazama break into Tears of Joy, and the episode ends with both of them walking together in the rain.
  • Shin is usually annoyed whenever he has to take care of Himawari, but he clearly shows he adores his little sister and is very protective of her. He's often seen playing with her, and he went to the point he risked his own life trying to save her from falling from he house's roof, breaking his leg in the process.
  • While his antics do mess several people's lives, sometimes his antics do help people instead, usually unintentionally.
  • In the school's relay race, Masao (already nervous for the race) trips while running, and starts crying in shame. Shinnosuke notices this, and offers him to run together to the finishing line. Cheetah (who is usually The Bully to Masao) joins him to cheer the guy up, and all the class participants run together to the race. This brings several adults to Tears of Joy (Hiroshi and Misae show they're proud of their son, Nene's mom is also moved despite not liking Shin at all, and Miss Yoshinaga and Miss Matsuzaka regret their rivalry upon seeing this)
  • In one episode, the Kasukabe Defense Organization compete to see who will be the leader, leading to a race in the hill by using paperboards as sleds. When Shin's paperboard gets broken, the group uses a big one for everyone. The episode ends with them forgetting the competition and just having fun.
  • Another one from the Kasukabe Defense Organization: When they spend the whole day searching for Masao's four-leaf clover, Masao wonders if losing the clover will lead to bad luck. Miss Yoshinaga compares clovers with the symbol of happiness, having to search for it and even showing up nearer than he thinks. Masao looks at his friends and starts seeing them as a four-leaf clover, smiling at the realization.
    • When they're searching for the clover, Shin does the croquette and offers Masao to join him. He at first declines, but when he sees Bo joining him, he does so, and becomes happier as a result.
  • Himawari fully shows she adores her big brother in one of the movies, when she (alongside Whitey) goes through several tribulations to save Shinnosuke and his friends from an stranded island. Her crying when she sees her brother truly seals the deal.
  • After a whole day taking care of his baby sister, Shin falls asleep with her. Misae notices this and gives him his beloved cookies as a reward. Aaaw...
  • In one episode, Masao and Bo get into a fight due to their respective collections. Kazama unintentionally brings them together by accidentally dismissing them, telling in unison they'll do anything for them. This leads to them making up, and it's nice to see (even at the expense of poor Kazama)
  • While Masao's worshipping of Ai is completely undeserved, when he thinks Shinnosuke made her cry (he didn't), he decides to fight him for allegedly breaking Ai's heart, showing his full nobility. Too bad Shin mistook it for a marriage proposal.
    • Throughout the whole episode, the teachers show full support at the idea of Masao being gay (especially Miss Ageo). Given the time the episode was written, this was not only heartwarming, but also progressive.
    • At the end, when Shinnosuke tells Masao they should stay friends, Masao is moved and hugs him, telling him they'll be friends forever.
  • In the episode with Kazama's embarrassing haircut, Nene decides to solve it by using scotch tape to make it look like his previous haircut. The others join him, and the class photo shows the whole Sunflower class using scotch tape as wigs, painting a heartwarming picture and Kazama smiling.
  • Every moment Shin-chan shows his Precocious Crush on Nanako. She's the only person who can get Shin-chan to act like a responsible little boy, and his frequent defending of her shows he genuinely loves her. Nanako (despite being unaware of his crush) cares a lot for him, and it's incredibly sweet to see the two together.
  • In one episode, Misae tries to do a scarf for the kindergarten's market to sell it, to no avail. At the end of the episode, it turns out someone bought the scarf. Who, you may ask? Hiroshi. Shinnosuke even comments this, saying he has his good things. Aww...
