Trivial Tropes

  • Executive Meddling: Unfortunately. Firing Steve Marmel was seen as the nail in the coffin for many fans. Network Decay, anybody?
  • Fan Nickname:
    • College Trio: Collective name to refer to Vlad, Jack, and Maddie.
    • CW: Because sometimes "Clockwork" is just too long to bother with.
    • GW: Because sometimes "Ghost Writer" is just too long to bother with. ( And his initials are written on the pediment of his mansion).
    • Frightmare: Nocturne's temporary name prior to the episode "Frightmare" airing.
    • Señor Seximus: Nickname used by English-speaking fans for Vlad in the Spanish language version of the show. Why did they watch this version? Do you even have to ask?
    • Vlad Seximus: Enough said.[context?]
    • Dan Phantom: A name commonly used for Danny's evil alternate-future self. Only originated in the video game adaptation.
    • Dark Danny: Another name used for Danny's evil alternate future-self. Shown during the episode's credits.
    • Master of Longwinded Introductions: Technus.
    • Dan Plasmius: Dark Danny.
  • Flip-Flop of God: So "ghosts" are really just monsters from another dimension who happen to use ectoplasm? Okay, Hartman...but what about the countless references to ghosts being dead or previously being alive? Or, say, the Dairy King.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Where to start?
  • Lying Creator: Butch Hartman has said the ghosts are not meant to be spirits of the dead, despite many of the ghosts in the show are shown to once have been alive (Pointdexter, Desiree, the Dairy King, the Lunch Lady, Ember). See Flip-Flop of God.
    • Desiree may not be an example; that info came from a folk tale.
    • It may just be that they are, but he has to say that.
    • It's possible that they aren't spirits so much as imprints there is no mention of Poindexter dying but perhaps the anger and indignation of being shoved into a locker clung to it creating Poindexter's ghost with out actually killing him.
    • At least one producer has stated directly that Ember, at least, is definitely a dead high schooler; but that was from only one source.
  • Name's the Same: In Germany, Danny is voiced by Daniel Schlauch.
    • A Part-Time Hero named Fenton. Also Tucker shares the same last name with Richie Foley from Static Shock who is also a nerdish technologically obsessed side kick who does scheduling for the protagonist.
  • The Other Darrin: Voice-acting example: The Lunch Lady is voiced by Patricia Heaton in the pilot episode, and Kath Soucie in her later appearances. Michael St Patrick voiced Skulker in three episodes, before being replaced by Kevin Michael Richardson, and while we are on the subject of KMR it should be pointed out that he was the original voice for the dragon ghost before they switched to Susanne Blakeslee . Also, when Valerie Took a Level in Badass, she switched from Grey Delisle to Cree Summer.
    • Also, Dani's voice actress switches from AnnaSophia Robb in "Kindred Spirits" to Krista Swan in "D-Stabilized".
  • Playing Against Type: Ron Perlman as Mr. Lancer, who is neither a villain nor a monster.
  • Reciprocal Fiction Paradox: In Danny Phantom, Danny can be see playing a Crash Nebula arcade game. In the Crash Nebula Poorly-Disguised Pilot episode of The Fairly OddParents, Crash has a Danny Phantom comic book.
  • Screwed by the Network: Was it ever.
    • Although hints of Dani's personality exist, it was largely ignored in favor of series regulars.
  • Shout-Out:
    • There are a few to Back to The Future in Danny Phantom. Marty McFly himself appears in a brief, pause-or-you'll-miss-it cameo in "Masters of All Time" and "Splitting Images". George McFly's book "A Match Made in Space" is seen in "Double Cross My Heart". And the coolest: the clock tower in the University of Madison (in "Masters of All Time") reads 10:04.
    • A reference to Crash Nebula can be see on an arcade machine in "What You Want". Likewise, a comic of Danny Phantom is seen in the "Crash Nebula" show.
    • Tucker Foley was named after Chris Tucker and Eddie Murphy's character Axel Foley from Beverly Hills Cop. Jazz was named after a character from the Next Men series. Vlad is derived from Vlad Dracula III, the original inspiration for Dracula.
    • For that matter, Vlad was originally intended to be a vampire, hence why his ghostly form heavily resembles one.
      • Also, hence the name "Plasmius"—from "plasma," or blood.
  • Talking to Himself: Several members of the cast play various roles throughout the episodes as well as their own main character roles.
  • What Could Have Been: Mentioned on the page there, but basically, Danny was supposed to be a teenaged Ghostbuster on a motorcycle with a pet owl and a psychic link to Sam. Then the idea was tweaked into what it is now.
    • This could apply to the entire third season, as Steve Marmel allegedly wanted to get Darker and Edgier, following along the lines of "The Ultimate Enemy". There was even a fan project on imagining what it would be like, only it never got off the ground because they couldn't get details from Mr. Marmel.
    • According to Word of God, Danielle was meant to become Danny's little sister. Yet another plotline that was abandoned when the series was abruptly cancelled.
  • The Wiki Rule: Originally on Wikia, with a fork to Miraheze.

Other Trivia

  • Sam and Danny were originally meant to share a psychic connection before Butch Hartman decided against it, saying only Danny should have the special powers.
    • Likewise, Danny was originally going to be a (fully human) ghost hunter, who rode a motorcycle, with a pet/sidekick owl named "Spooky." (This may be the inspiration for the Danny-riding-Johnny-13's-bike scene).
  • According to writer Steve Marmel, an original Running Gag would be that Vlad's manor would blow up every time.
  • The name "Vlad Plasmius" was claimed by Marmel to be written on a brick he bought.
  • Danny Phantom's eyebrows were at one time (in production) white like his hair, but they were changed back to black—they made him look too old.
  • Look at Sam's room right after the theme song in "Control Freaks." Sam has a (musical) keyboard lying on her floor. Perhaps she plays!
    • Also, there's a red version of Ember's guitar in Jazz's room in "Fanning the Flames".
  • Danny's eyes were much larger in the older episodes (not to PPG level, however).
