Blaming himself for getting Seth killed, which he hides from Max until "After the Dark", may have something to do with it.

- Establishing Character Moment: Lydecker establishes himself as both a Determinator and a complete dick when he goes to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for the sole purpose of telling them how weak they are. You see, when he gave up drinking, he did it cold turkey under his own willpower. He didn't whine about how he had a disease and he needed help. The irony when he later falls Off the Wagon is delicious.

- Luke, I Am Your Father - discussed and lampshaded. He isn't related to Max, but did include some of his dead wife's DNA in her.
