Darker than Black/Season Two Spoilers

Tropes used in Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini include:

Apocalypse Maiden: Yin, who has basically turned into some sort of Eldritch Abomination that causes Contractors to turn their powers against themselves and is attempting to meet Shion at the Gate and open it. She may or may not have succeeded; the Gainax Ending is irritatingly and headache-inducingly unclear.
Big Brother Instinct: Hei to Suou, eventually. She, on the other hand, has flat-out fallen in love with him.
Bittersweet Ending: The End of the World as We Know It has been prevented, but the only major characters left alive at this point are Hei, Kirihara, and Mao. Japan has been taken over and the group Kirihara is involved with is being chased as the new Syndicate, and a new Izanami seems to have appeared. On the plus side, the alternate world Shion created means that at least one version of Suou gets to have a happy life.
- It is implied that Suou and July from world one are alive, but placed in the other world - though Suou's memories have completely faded. Oreille specifically states that they have 'gone there'. The ending isn't *that* confusing, people.
Butt Monkey: The entire second season could probably be subtitled, "Mao's Personal Hell." His old body gets shot. He gets stuck as a Ridiculously Cute Critter. He gets used as a projectile weapon/distraction several times. He keeps getting called a squirrel. He gets taped to a window. He gets chased by train conductors and, ironically enough, cats. Well... you get the idea.
- Lampshaded at one point by the character during one of these humiliations, who noted feeling like they were in an old cartoon they used to watch.
The Chessmaster: Knowledge Broker Madame Oreille, who manipulated Hei and Suou into coming to Japan and made sure Kirihara would research Izanagi and Izanami and Suou would search for her brother when it looked like they were getting sidetracked. Hell, she was playing the CIA for chumps from even before the series began.
Cloning Blues: Suou, upon discovering that she's a copy created by her "brother's" ability several years after the original died. Fortunately, she had people around to help her come to terms with it.
Cruel and Unusual Death: Genma killed Youko rather horribly after Hei kidnapped her to get Yin's location. For obvious reasons, her coworkers assume Hei did it, when in fact he just left her half-conscious after she told him what he wanted to know.
Curb Stomp Battle / No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Turns out Kirihara with a gun is no match for Hei with a knife, even depowered.
Dead All Along: The "original" Suou died eight years ago, according to her mother.
Fake Memories: Suou's memories from more than two years back either belonged to someone else or were fabricated.
Fetus Terrible: Implied to have happened to Yin, possibly turning her into the monster she is now. Unless it was metaphorical, which seems possible given the source.
Fridge Horror: If Hei got depowered, then what happened to Bai?
- She got transformed and moved to the Meteor Core necklace Suou is wearing. You can see that in the episode 2, where Hei gets depowered.
  - Of course, Izanami shattered said Meteor Core just before the end...
  - BK-201's star lit up again, so Bai might have gone back to Hei after the Meteor Fragment was broken by Izanami.
- She did because Hei clearly uses his powers to kill Yin
Gainax Ending: Following the suit of the first season, arguably leaving more hanging threads than the previous season finale. It has another Eva Shout-Out too, this time in the form of a sort of alternate world where a protagonist has a normal life with a normal family. As well as the brief shot of Hei with his hand somewhere around the torso-area of a naked Yin, quite remniscent of Gendo putting his hand through a naked Rei in End of Evangelion, and at a very similar junction as well.
He's Just Hiding: Theories that Mao body-jumped into Suou's pet squirrel before he was killed by April turned out to have been correct.
Hidden Supplies: Hei apparently hid a backup coat and knives in an abandoned building in Tokyo.
"I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Semi-invoked with Suou and Tanya. Ended badly, though not because of Suou. Shion did it!
It's Personal: Hazuki towards Hei after finding Youko's brutally murdered corpse in the room where he'd been interrogating her. He didn't actually do it, though.
Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: We were set up to see that our hero prepared to do this to Yoko, but she spilled her guts without him needing to do anything but look menacing and shine a light in her eyes. On the other hand, from the way she was acting it was clear that she had been force-fed some manner of drug and had been submitted to serious psychological abuse.
- Havoc states outright that this always works on Contractors, due to their rationality: They always put themselves first, and so won't suffer through torture for anything.
Kill Them All: By the end of the season, the only major protagonists left are Hei, Kirihara, and Mao; Hei has to kill Yin, and although an alternate-Earth Suou is fine, the one we know dies. Something similar applies to July. Antagonists, even recurring or returning ones, get hit even harder.
- Suou and July are implied to not be dead. They disappear from the scene and are stated to have gone to the other world. It is not explained how.
Not Quite Dead: Mao!
- Suou's dad, whose copy got killed.
- August 7, apparently, but since it was in the Gate, who the hell knows?
Opposite Gender Clone: Suou's actual origin.
- Yin appears to have a opposite sex clone of herself at the end.
Pietà Plagiarism: Hei with Yin's body at the end.
Precocious Crush: Suou to Hei, who's at least ten years older than her, with a slightly worrying subtext of Stockholm Syndrome.
Psychic-Assisted Suicide: Yin's Super-Powered Evil Side makes Contractors kill themselves.
Shoot the Dog: Hei's goal the whole time has been to try to find Yin and kill her before she can open the Gate. This is made considerably more difficult by the fact that he still cares about her a lot.
Stuffed Into the Fridge: Youko got killed off rather horribly after Hei made the mistake of leaving her half-conscious when he got the information he wanted out of her. Although Genma was the real culprit, the main in-story purpose is that Hazuki now thinks Hei tortured her to death.
Tomato in the Mirror: According to her mother, the real Suou has been dead for eight years; ours is a clone with the original Suou's memories, plus some extra. According to her father, Suou is an Opposite Gender Clone Shion made of himself.
Too Dumb to Live: Goran, a Fragile Speedster fully aware of his own weaknesses, doesn't carry guns or knives or even Razor Floss to enhance his offensive capabilities. This costs him his life against April.
