  • Basically, the entire Darkest Dungeon. In fact, it's nightmare fuel in-universe as well -- no hero will venture into it a second time.
    • All of the "human" enemies are clearly... human no longer. The robed Cultist Priests are so far gone that they're Eldritch Beasts instead of Human.
    • Hey, some raptorous cultists waving their arms! Ew, are those eyes on their bodies? Huh, what does "Flesh to Flesh" do? AUGH DID HE JUST BITE HIS OWN ARM?! HOW DOES THAT HEAL ANYONE?!
    • After you've finished the first mission, you begin to "see things as they truly are". The shopkeepers and surroundings will flicker into more nightmarish, visceral figures, and occasionally your heroes' portraits will be replaced by eldritch masses until you mouse over them. Whether it's the effect of the Dungeon spreading to the player or the true nature of the world is up to interpretation...
    • The entire idea of the Heart of Darkness that the Ancestor found: There is a monster at the heart of the world, and when it wakes up — and it will — it will destroy the planet. It cannot be destroyed, only delayed...
