  • Anvilicious: A hallmark of Romero's work. The original was released just as large shopping malls were becoming commonplace. When asked why the zombies have flocked here, of all places, Steven replies, "Instinct. Memory. This was an important place in their lives."
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: From the original, when the biker gang breaks into the mall at the end. Special mention goes to Tom Savini as the biker with blades.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The entire soundtrack by Goblin and "The Gonk".
    • Hell, the entire De Wolfe library music selection used in the film. Perfect mix of action, melancholy, and dissonant Muzak.
  • Nausea Fuel: Both versions have this potential.
  • Special Effects Failure: Tom Savini thought the bluish-grey makeup and orangeish blood for the zombies made them look too cartoony. That many of them have no makeup around their eyes does nothing to maintain the illusion. However, Romero thinks it gives the film more of a comic book-style.
  • Spiritual Licensee: Not Dead Rising, a sticker on the box makes that very clear.
  • Tear Jerker: The deaths of Roger and Stephen.
