Death Battle/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Accidental Innuendo: When Wiz is discussing Peach's "Vibe Scepter", Boomstick begins laughing uncontrollably. Not that he can be blamed.
  • Broken Base: By the show's very nature, it is essentially impossible to definitively confirm which character would win in a fight. Therefore, at least some fans protest the results of most fights, much like in Deadliest Warrior.
    • Check out Mario vs Sonic to know what we're talking about. Those Mario fans released so much hatred on them.
  • Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy: It can be hard to watch the episodes, since chances are two characters that you like are going to fight each to the death. This is averted occasionally such as with Kirby vs. Majin Buu as well as Donkey Kong vs. Knuckles (which is comedic).
  • Fridge Brilliance: As several observers have noted, Starscream lost his fight with Rainbow Dash because he's always doomed to lose in the G1 continuity.
  • Holy Shit Quotient: Eggman vs. Wily, especially after Metal Sonic decimates both of them.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Harry Potter's scar exploding and his agonized scream might be either this or Narm. Also, Metal Overlord destroying everything and everyone from Eggman VS Wily might be either this or a Crowning Moment of Awesome.
  • Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: The most important moral of the show; "Just because a character is more popular doesn't necessarily mean they are stronger/better at fighting; actual fighting capabilities are dependent on the fighter's own skills, abilities and experiences."
    • Goku VS Superman, "Just because someone is similar to people you have fought or had conflict with in the past, doesn't they're morally as bad as those people." The entire fight started because Goku believes that Superman is out to destroy the planet, simply because he's an alien like his past villains (ignoring how many of his friends were aliens themselves), which resulted in Superman defending himself and the two escalated the fight until the whole planet ends getting destroyed, just like what Goku said and had feared. Considering how racial profiling and poor communications are major problems in real life, it's a very satisfying moral to learn in the long run.
    • Pokemon VS Digimon, "Friends are not people who tell each other what to do or blindly follow each other, a true friend is someone who helps you during your times of need and treats you as someone equal to themselves." When WarGreymon was in danger of being defeated by Mega Charizard X, Tai unhesitantly rushes in and beats up Red, telling him to call off his Pokemon. WarGreymon uses this chance to slay Charizard and tell Tai to get to safety, before finishing their opponents off with a full-power Terra Force. Granted, while many fans have complaints about the fight (especially for what Tai did), it doesn't change the fact it's an important moral for most people to be aware of. In the rundown, the hosts themselves noted one of the main factors behind Digimon's victory over Pokemon is that Red--although he clearly bonds with Charizard very much--still more or less treats his Pokemons like slaves since Pokemon Trainers always place their Pokemon into their Poke Balls without permission after battle. By contrast, Digimon Tamers like Tai treat their Digimon as both equals and friends, neither one has true superiority over the other, and allow them to make their own decisions in life.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: In Eggman VS Wily, Mecha Knuckles gets even less done than Scratch and Grounder, getting barely two seconds of screen time before he gets destroyed by Guts Man.
    • Mecha Sonic never gets to use his Golden Super Mode.
      • Bass' Super Mode is only used in a futile attempt to stop Metal Sonic from going One-Winged Angel, when he was probably the only Robot Master strong enough to take him on anyway.
    • In Shadow V.S. Vegeta, Super Shadow spent most of his time teleporting Super Saiyan Vegeta around via Chaos Control, which ultimately led to his undoing. If he hadn't wasted so much time on his Chaos Control, however... The way it ended would probably have been the same, but the fight itself might have been more enjoyable to watch.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Several of the Death Battles can apply, but the most recent example for this was Thor vs Raiden.
    • And of course every coming battle will indeed be this, due to their new animator, Jordan Lange, who started animating the series as of Zelda vs Peach.
