Dirty Jobs/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Crowning Show of Funny: Either through the situation, Mike's comments or both, this was probably one of the funniest shows on TV when it was aired. We also have a list of some of the best moments.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Making mud for off-shore oil wells in the Gulf coast; cleaning the natural gas drilling "fracking" (short for "fracture", not a sci-fi swear word) chemical containers after watching the documentary Gasland (briefly: natural gas drilling is so bad for the environment that drinking water becoming flammable is the least of its problems).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Back when he hosted The History Channel program, The Most, Mike did a segment on the world's dirtiest job: the Parisian sewer worker.
  • Nausea Fuel: Some episodes you really don't want to watch while eating.
    • For the crew, there's also the fact that Barsky's into urine therapy and apparently doesn't wear underwear a decent amount of the time. Now remember that he's often the one doing overhead shots and likes loose shorts...
    • The show is bad enough, and then they show those commercials where they're making beer with spit....
  • Nightmare Fuel: One of the instructors for the DECOMP Lab was on the John Wayne Gacy case and helped analyze the nearly three-dozen bodies recovered from Gacy's property.
    • If you look closely when Mike's butchering the freshly killed steer you'll notice its muscles are still twitching.
    • That frigging lint-chewing machine at the tannery, which looked like a possessed staple claw on steroids.
    • And speaking of the tannery... two words: Liquid. Hair.
      • And still on that subject, two more words: Deer. Flesh.
    • Then there was the forensic entomology body farm. They study how pig carcasses decay and how maggots feed in, umm, various conditions. Like being crammed into a trash barrel, rolled up in a blanket, and tossed in a dumpster.
  • Squick: The obvious aside, one episode has Mike go through a tofu factory and before, during and after he complains about open blisters on his hands... a man with OPEN WOUNDS on his HAND, making FOOD and if memory serves, DIDN'T WEAR GLOVES AT ANY POINT IN THE PROCESS...
