Doomsday Clock (comics)

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Doomsday Clock is a 2017 superhero comic book limited series published by DC Comics, serving alongside The Button as a sequel to Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The series also represents the culmination of the DC Rebirth campaign, and is being written by chief creative officer Geoff Johns with art from penciller Gary Frank and colorist Brad Anderson.

Tropes used in Doomsday Clock (comics) include:
  • Alternate History: Issue 1 continues down the timeline established by Watchmen. By 1992, however, things have gone south.
  • The Atoner: Ozymandias, aka Veidt, has clearly become this by 1992. So much so that he's desperately trying to find Dr. Manhattan.
  • Decon Recon Switch/Reconstruction: The series is intended to serve as the DC Universe's retort to the legacy of Watchmen.
  • Just Before the End: Issues 1 and 2 reveal that November 22, 1992 is this as within less than four hours, Watchmen!Earth plunges into nuclear war. Veidt, Rorschach and company manage to escape just as the End occurs.
  • Legacy Character: The current Rorschach is shown to be this, being a black man instead of Kovacs.
  • Recursive Reality: Veidt speculates that DC!Earth may have people who are fictional back in his world.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: It's revealed that Ozymandias is dying of brain cancer.
