Dragons II: The Metal Ages

Dragons II: The Metal Ages is the 2005 television animated adventure film, and the sequel to the 2004 film Dragons: Fire & Ice.

The movie starts with Scylla, high priestess and queen of the Odaku army, writing strange symbols on the surface of a mountain. Using these symbols and a magic fire, she summons Shadow Dragons Gryndel and Daakon, the spirits of two evil dragons who were exiled from their world by its king. She offers to open a portal to the Dragon Realm if they aid her in battle against the Norvagen and Draigar... and you can tell where this is going.

Tropes used in Dragons II: The Metal Ages include:
  • Action Girl: Kyra once again, also Scylla.
  • Affably Evil: Scylla tries this when she talks to Kyra.
  • Animation Bump: Hit and miss for this one. Facial animations got a tremendous improvement, but some animation of minor characters look worse than its predecessor.
  • Artifact of Doom: The Load Stone, a fragment of the Aurothon has incredible power over earth.
  • Awesome Yet Practical: The small stone Gorhagar carries around with him.
  • Badass Grandpa: Dev had an ancestor with a penchant for going berserk, but it didn't end well.
  • Battle Couple: Dev and Kyra... also Kyra and Gorhagar, much to Dev's dismay.
  • The Berserker: Dev, and his grandad.
  • Berserk Button: Kyra can be soundly beaten in battle, feel betrayed, and almost betray her best friend, and still maintain a steady composure. but call her "Princess Stork Legs" and she'll tear you a new one.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Justified for a children's film.
  • Character Development: Dev and Kyra, and now Gorhagar. Originally Dev despised Gorhagar, most likley out of jealousy.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Light Dragons V.S. Shadow Dragons, what else is there to say?
  • Death From Above: The Shadow Dragons love to swoop down upon helpless foes.
  • The Dragon: An actual dragon this time, Slann.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: Shadow dragons are quite literally made entirely from shadows. Same goes for the light dragons.
  • Hey, It's That Voice!: Wouldn't ya know it? The queen of this trope makes it even into obscure animations.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Dev is certainly this. He's even worse near the beginning.
  • Large Ham: Jennifer Hale must've had a blast going all out to play a villain on this one.
  • Never Say "Die": Averted times a plenty, as many characters speak about death and killing rather casually.
  • No Flow in CGI
  • Oh Crap: Everybody's horrified expression whenever Dev starts to go all berserker.
    • When the shadow dragons first attack.
  • Sequel Hook: Slann reappears at the very end as a shadow dragon in the Dragon World.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Averted, Kyra isn't the only lead female this time around.
  • Take Over the World: Scylla
  • Weapons That Suck: Norvagen and Draigar weapons seem pretty primitve when compared to the ones being used by the Odaku army.
