Basic Trope: Two women wear the same dress, causing embarrassment for both of them.

  • Straight: Alice goes to a dance and sees Betty wearing the same dress as her. Alice is humiliated.
  • Exaggerated: Alice sees Betty wearing the same dress as her. Alice flies into an insane rage and needs to be restrained.
  • Justified: Alice's dress was a gift from her husband, who told her he had it custom-made just for her. By seeing Betty in the same dress, she found out he was lying.
  • Inverted: Alice is upset when she sees Betty wearing a different dress than her, because they agreed to dress alike.
  • Subverted: Alice sees Betty wearing the same dress, but doesn't mind.
  • Double Subverted: But when she sees that Betty has the same earrings as her, she's pissed.
  • Parodied: Adam can't find a suit to wear to the dance, so he wears one of his sister's dresses. At the dance, he sees Bob wearing an identical dress, and is humiliated.
  • Deconstructed: When they see each other wearing identical dresses, Alice and Betty begin arguing, dredging up every petty difference they've ever had, and eventually breaking apart their friendship.
  • Reconstructed: Alice's and Betty's husbands, Chuck and Dave, end up buying the same truck as each other and have a similar fight. When the women see how silly the men are acting, they come to their senses and settle their differences.
