Edward Christopher Sheeran, better known as Ed Sheeran, is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He started recording music in 2004 and, from 2009 to 2011, recorded five EPs that were released independently, later reissued in the boxset 5 in 2015.

In January 2011, he released the No. 5 Collaborations Project EP, featuring grime artists, which attracted mainstream attention. After signing with Asylum Records three months later, his debut album, + (read as "plus"), was released in September 2011. He became commercially successful ever since.

"The A Team", his Breakthrough and Sleeper Hit, was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2013 Grammy Awards, where he performed the song with Elton John. His single from his second album x ("multiply"), "Thinking Out Loud", earned him two Grammy Awards at the 2016 ceremony: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. In May 2016, x was named the second best selling album worldwide in 2015.
