Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for here.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Fallout fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Authors, and Websites

  • Fallout Kink Meme
  • Recommended by Meg The Maggot
  • Comments: It may be a Kink Meme, but many of the stories are surprisingly well-written. The Meme contains plenty of fluff, gen, and dark fics, in addition to all the porn. There's something for every mood and taste, and finding stories featuring a particular kink or pairing is easy using the bookmarks page. Not Safe for Work, for obvious reasons.
  • Tranquility Lane
  • Recommended by Oni Link 96
  • Comments: The Fallout Fanon wiki. Contains a lot of interesting stories, events, and characters.

General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Fallout: Nova Vega, an Unofficial Sequel, by Fell

  • Recommended by Comartemis
  • Synopsis: House is dead and an Independent Vegas is united under the hand of the Courier, but the NCR and what's left of the Legion aren't about to let him keep what he's won. Too bad the Courier isn't about to let them take it from him.
  • Comments: ...or, "How the West Was Won... Again". A bit of a shift for Fallout fiction, instead of wandering the wastes, this little number tells of the Courier's efforts to unite the Mojave as the new warlord of New Vegas, pitting him against both the NCR and the remnants of the Legion. Large-scale conflict is the name of the game, the opening scene features a combined arms raid on the NCRCF and the Powder Gangers, and the Courier is evidently making plans to invade Arizona and smite the remnants of the Legion.

New California Dreaming by Hotpoint (Tropes page)

  • Recommended by Chankljp
  • Synopsis: Cassidy N Coyle, a Sergeant serving in the New California Republic Rangers and a citizen from the town of New Arroyo (a decedent of the Chosen One), was sent on a mission by the NCR military to travel across the remains of the United States to investigate the Brotherhood of Steel's activities on the East Coast. Along the way he met a girl named Allison Brenner who agreed to be his local guild in exchange for him to bring her to Canterbury Commons in the Capital Wasteland.

Tales From The Wasteland: Black As Oil by SickleYield

  • Recommended by Gadeel
  • Synopsis: The best laid plans of research scientists often go awry. The awkward hybrid is on her own, and she'll need some sort of protection besides her family of robots. Good thing she has two thousand caps to spend.
  • Comments: A heartwarming little tale in the background of the Capital Wasteland, instead of being about the Lone Wanderer, is about a half-alien's journey of self-discovery.

Lament by Kimmae

  • Recommended by Vergil
  • Synopsis: On her hopeless search for her father, the Lone Wanderer from Vault 101 met someone who would change her life forever. Little did she know that she had moved him as well, despite appearances. A not so fluffy tale of a Lone Wanderer and Charon.
  • Comments: The Wasteland is called The Wasteland for a reason. This fic reminds you why.

Twas the night before Fallout by Lord Kain

  • Recommended by Poptard
  • Synopsis: A parody of Twas the Night before Christmas with Fallout New Vegas characters
  • Comments: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. A very hilarious take on an old classic.

Decay of Innocence by Pluma.Pretereo

  • Recommended by Gadeel
  • Synopsis: The wasteland erodes everything it touches. A naive Doctor-turned-courier was no match for it's trials even before someone shot her in the face and left her for dead. Faced with death and an unforgiving desert, good intentions will only get you so far.
  • Comment: The main character doesn't have to be a badass to survive the Wasteland and have an adventure, although a lot of Luck and a killer Eyebot would go along great with that Good Natured perk.

Fallout: Nuka Break by Wayside Creations

  • Recommended by Daionus The 23 rd
  • Synopsis: (Taken Verbatim from the video description) Join Twig (Zack Finfrock), a former Vault 10 Dweller, as he searches the barren wasteland of eastern California for ice-cold Nuka Cola. Along for the ride is Ben (Aaron Giles), a radiation-ravaged ghoul, and Scarlett (Tybee Diskin), a sexy former slave. Together, the three attempt to survive both the harsh wastes and a relentless group of bounty hunters while trying to find the coveted beverage—Nuka Cola.
  • Comments: While more of a Fan Film than a Fan Fiction, its hilarious and feels like it was straight out of Fallout. Even if you have rudimentary knowledge of the Fallout franchise, it still manages to be highly entertaining. With its constant dark humor, surprisingly high amount of work put into it, and brilliant writing, it is a must-see for anyone who considers themselves a fan of the Fallout franchise, or even just post-apocalyptic fiction in general.

Vincit Qui Se Vincit

  • Recommended by Meg The Maggot
  • Synopsis: An older gentleman Courier travels the wastes with Boone, Arcade, and Veronica as Arcade attempts to unravel the mysteries surrounding the Courier's past.
  • Comments: Don't let the fact it's on the Kink Meme fool you: This is an intense, well-written story, full of twists, turns, and tons of suspense. Don't read if you have something that needs to be done urgently, it's pretty long and gripping.

Death and Freedom

  • Recommended by Mystical Haddock
  • Synopsis: Tyler, a mercenary who doesn't care who he kills, and Guardian, a man trying to play hero of the Wasteland, team up to recruit others to take out an entire company of slavers.
  • Comments: A fun look at two foiled characters played in Fallout games, the evil badass and the champion of justice, working together. Still in it's early stages but has a promising future.

Doc Webb's Wasteland Journal

  • Recommended by Oni Link 96
  • Synopsis: A retelling of New Vegas' story. It's well written and gives the Courier, known as Doctor Jacob Webb in this fic, a pretty good backstory as a former NCR soldier.
  • Comments: A very well put together fic. It's written with the idea that Webb is using his Pip-Boy to record his thoughts, starting out as something that Doc Mitchell recommends and turning into something he just likes to do. Unfortunately the author's updates are a little too far-between for my tastes, but it's still worth a read.

Companions by Pookie2

  • Recommended by Oni Link 96
  • Synopsis: Vignettes about a female Courier's adventures through the waste with the various companions in New Vegas.
  • Comments: Very nicely put together. It gives a depth of interaction between NV's companions that was absent in the game proper. "Companions" is only part one of Pookie2's All the Things You Are series, so if you like this one, check out the subsequent parts.

If I Didn't Care by Cressida Isolde

  • Recommended by Malibu
  • Synopsis: This started out as a series of vignettes about issues facing the Courier but grew into so much more. Very interaction-focused with the other companions.
  • Comments: Just. Stunning. The writing is great and both the writing and all the characters develop a lot over the course of the stories (there are three of them; the last, Viva New Vegas, is still ongoing), and the author teases out a lot of underlying themes and refrains from being a strict retelling. Subtle and deep at the same time.

Crossovers

Winged Horse of the Apocalypse by Lone-ranger1

  • Recommended by amitakartok
  • Synopsis: When their Jumper is downed in the Capital Wasteland, John Sheppard and Alicia Vega have to learn to survive the wastes in order to save McKay from the Evil Enclave... except McKay is trying to save himself!
  • Comments: A pretty good Fallout 3/Stargate Atlantis crossover. It is an Alternate Universe fic since the Capital Wasteland here isn't located on Earth - not even in this galaxy. It begins right after the Lone Wanderer escapes from Raven Rock.

Falling Stars by Tastychainsaws

  • Recommended by Hanz
  • Synopsis: A crossover between Lucky Star and Fallout 3, with Konata in the role of The Lone Wanderer. Kagami and Tsukasa follow along, with other characters taking the place of other Fallout characters (the author provides a list of what character will represent who in his page). The story is set to cover the main story as well as the DLC (Tsukasa having been dragged off to Point Lookout at one point.)
  • Comments: It's an interesting interpretation of the setting, with the author taking a few liberties (the culture is more 80-90's themed than 50's). It's also a rather spectacular Break the Cutie story, considering well... It's the goddamn Capital Wasteland.
    • Now has its own page on this wiki, see here.

Shipping Fics

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Trouble by RustyPaperclip

  • Recommended by Valjevert
  • Pairings: Butch/Harkness
  • Synopsis: If anyone asked Harkness if there was any trouble in Rivet City, he'd answer 'Sure. You can find the barber in the Muddy Rudder.' Because, he had never met anyone as troublesome as Butch.
  • Comments: I admit, it sounds like a crack pairing, but it's a surprisingly emotional story. It keeps everyone true to their character, but still has subtle character development without derailing anyone. It's a must read.
