This is an incomplete listing of the major characters that appear in Final Fantasy Unlimited. As with the main page, information from Episode 25 or After from the spinoff projects should be in spoiler text.


Protagonists

Kuroki Kaze

"It has moved. Soil is my power! The Magun has thawed. ... The Soil Charge Triad to use on you has been decided!"
"I know nothing of ideals. As long as I get to finish things, I couldn't care less what happens to this world, or who dies!"

Kuroki Kaze, more commonly known by the alias Kaze (real name unknown) is the man of the Black Wind and the possessor of the Magun. He awakes on Wonderland with little to no memory of his past, but finds himself drawn to protect others, despite his rather aloof nature. He also carries a grudge against Makenshi.

Kaze: You cannot hurt me with such a weak gun. Is something wrong with the Magun? Why don't you use it?

Ai Hayakawa

"I think he kinda likes you." "Are you nuts? Remember what he did to me last time?"

Yu: "So hey, sis, aren't you even scared?"

Ai: "We're going to look for mom and dad, you know. There's no time to be scared right now."

One of the two Hayakawa twins. She tends to be more feisty than Yu, but also more practical. Fabula gives her a companion called "Poshepocket."

Yu Hayakawa

"That's enough! Stop! Don't you see what you're doing?!"
Yu: "Mind your manners, sis."

One of the two Hayakawa twins. He possesses a tender, gentle nature and is good with animals.

Lisa Pacifist

Voiced by: Kyoko Hikami, Shawn Sides

A twenty-two-year-old woman who the twins meet on the phantom train as they first travel to Wonderland. She quickly adopts the role of surrogate parent to them, but seems to have her own objectives. Whenever she's nervous, she smiles and laughs awkwardly, which only makes the people around her more suspicious. She is a practitioner of a rare technique called Kigen Arts, which she often uses for self-defense until The Cavalry comes to bail her and the twins out of dangerous situations.

Shiroi Kumo

Voiced by: Akira Ishida (Japanese), Shanon Weaver (English)

An extremely taciturn, very powerful swordsman who first appears in the employ of the Earl. He seems to be most interested in settling some kind of score with Kaze, and actually helps the heroes on occasion. Eventually, it becomes clear that he's investigating Chaos for his own reasons. Called "Makenshi" by the Earl.

Allies

Chobi

Voiced by: Akiko Yajima, Samantha Inoue-Harte

A young chocobo who, like the rest of his kind, is especially enamored with Ai's hair. Starting in Episode 2, he is equipped with a watch that detects when the phantom subway is about to depart, and midway through the series he becomes able to conjure up the armor of the Ciel Chocobo, allowing him to fly. He can carry Lisa and the twins on his back.

Knave

Voiced by: Yukitoshi Hori, Ken Webster

Leader of the Comodeen, the rebel faction against Earl. He tends to be played as a comedic character most of the time, but when push comes to shove he's a brave leader who'll risk his life for his men and his ideals.

Cid

Voiced by: Toshihiko Seki, Robert Newell

Cid is a cheerful, optimistic, and energetic technician, a wizard at anything electronic. He spends most of his time, working with his many inventions. He has the unusual habit of naming his machines with female names, and treating them as if they were alive.

Miles

Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima

Knave's tomboyish second-in-command. She is often seen directing the soldiers. She wields a pan-flute version of the blowguns the generic members use.

Fungo

Voiced by: Houko Kuwashima

Fungo is a little peculiar, possessing instincts that border on precognition; feeling events before they occur. He usually serves as a warning to the others that danger approaches.

Lou Lupus

Voiced by: Kaori, Larissa Wolcott

Lou is a werewolf, as per her race, but unlike (normal) werewolves, they transform not on nights with full moons, but by looking into the eyes of a member of their race, or their own via mirror.

Clear

Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa

Clear is the embodiment of Omega's heart and emotions. Appearing as a boy with blue/green hair, Clear ended up with a cloak of Flying Water to cover his entire body and hold his power at bay. He encounters Ai after she had fallen off the submarine in the Ocean Puzzle. Clear tried to steer clear of Ai out of fear of killing her by accident.

Moogle Kupo

"Move, Magun! Just as the Soil guides you!"


"At last, Kaze! You finally found a memory of me, buried somewhere deep within your heart!"

Also known as Mogli, Moogle Kupow and simply Moogle, Moogle Kupo is Kaze's partner. The two were separated, but the party discovered him in a village within the Ocean Puzzle. Kaze did not initially remember him, but the events of the episode sparked his memory and the two were reunited.

  • Badass Adorable
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He regularly uses his pom-pom to apply electric shocks to himself to block out the effects of the strange radio tower in the village, which causes people to be trapped in nostalgic memories.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In Episode 25, he transforms himself into the Soil Soul Gun Metal in order to aid in summoning Bahamut.
  • Sidekick: To Kaze
  • Sole Survivor: Moogles were common in his homeworld of Windaria
  • Verbal Tic: How much he says "kupo" tends to depend on what version you're watching.

Crux

Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue, Samantha Inoue-Harte

A fairy marionette brought to life, Crux's job is to spy on Kaze, Yu and Ai, and Lisa. Crux's entire vocabulary is made up of "kukuruyu", though the Lords seem to understand her. The Gaudium Lords treat her as a tool, rather than a helper, expect for Makenshi.

Lords of Gaudium

Earl Tyrant

Voiced by: Akiko Yajima, Elena Carillo

Earl Tyrant is the primary antagonist of Final Fantasy: Unlimited. He appears as a spoiled young monarch, surrounded by his followers on his throne. He is the physical extension of Chaos, thus his existence is dependent on Chaos spreading destruction and disorder. Normally he is a small, fat kid, with a foul temper. His true form, Chaos Tyrant, he takes on the appearance of a mockery of a large, featherless, purple bird.

Oscha

Voiced by: Kouji Ishii, Brian Jepson

Oscha, is one of the main antagonists of Final Fantasy: Unlimited. One of Earl Tyrant's four Lords of Gaudium, Oscha acts as his personal adviser to Tyrant. Unlike his fellow lords, he is actually an aspect of Chaos. His role is to ensure the well-being of Chaos's avatar, which in this case is Earl Tyrant. After the Earl's defeat, he sets out to groom Ai and Yu into proper replacements.

Herba

Voiced by: Kana Ueda, Jessica Smolins

Herba is one of the four Lords of Gaudium, Herba usually sits beside Earl Tyrant and act as his personal attendee. An attractive lady that resembles a plant, Herba carries an umbrella with her. Though she acts flighty, Herba tends to mock others and bear grudges. She has a tendency to end the names of people she likes with the word "baby", like "Makenshi-baby".

Fungus

Voiced by: Daisuke Gouri

Fungus, one of the four Lords of Gaudium, Fungus is the first to face Kaze and the Hayakawa twins Yu and Ai Hayakawa.

Pist Shaz XI

"If you know your enemy and work out a plan, there is no one in the entire universe whom you need to fear."

Pist Shaz XI, commonly referred to as Pist, is one of the central antagonists and, as such, one of the Lords of Guadium. He is confident and intelligent, able to create intricate plans quickly. However, it is usually his certainty in them that causes his plans to backfire and fail.

Dolk Soljashy

Voiced by: Ken Narita

Dolk is one of the antagonists in Final Fantasy: Unlimited After. He would serve the Gaudium in their bid to conquer worlds.

Other Characters

Fabula

Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue, Claire Hamilton

Fabula, is a minor character in the anime Final Fantasy: Unlimited. She has only two appearances within the series itself, instead appearing outside almost every episode to give a preview of the next episode. She is always seen within a winged clam shell.

Joe and Mary Hayakawa

Voiced by: Takumi Yamazaki (Joe) and Yuko Minaguchi (Mary), Brendan Walsh (Joe) and Katie Gilette (Mary)

Joe and Mary are the parents of Yu and Ai. The couple became famous after they journeyed into Wonderland to conduct experiments, publishing their findings in a world famous book. After they went missing on there second trip, Yu and Ai went searching for them.

  • Put on a Bus: In After.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Mary miscarried their original children, probably because of their abrupt transfer to Wonderland; they found and adopted Ai and Yu there instead.

Chocobaba and Chocoimo

Voiced by: Rin Mizuhara, Lainie Frasier

The Chocobo Sisters Chocobaba and Chocoimo are two elderly women who care for chocobos. The pair look a lot-o-like, and share many personality traits. Both sisters seem reluctant to offer any conclusive information to anyone.

  • Catch Phrase: "At least that's the rumor!" and "Or something like that!"

Akai Kiri

Voiced by: Hideyuki Tanaka

Madoushi, real name Akai Kiri, is the older brother of Makenshi, he looks similar except for his red clothes and hair. Like Makenshi, he wears a veil over his face because he breathes out Mist.

Aura

Voiced by: Tomoe Hanba

Aura is Kaze's sister, and fellow Windarian. Though appearing only in Kaze's flashbacks in the series, she played a major role in relation to Makenshi. Until regaining his memory, Kaze seems to believe Makenshi was the one who killed Aura while seeing her through Lisa Pacifist.

Other After-Exclusive Characters

Touya

Touya is Yu's best friend and the same age as the twins, whom he both knew since kindergarten.

Kaori
