Fox's Peter Pan & the Pirates/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Audience-Alienating Premise: A serious take on Peter Pan didn't exactly get older kids running to the set, and the younger kids got scared away. (Possibly a reason why the second year's airing toned the darkness down considerably)
  • Cult Classic: Those who saw it loved it, and it is fondly remembered online. Too bad not many people saw it.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The show had rather excellent and exciting music. Take the main theme for starters.
  • Foe Yay: Slightly the Lost Boy & the pirate Billy Jukes.
    • There was also at least one episode that hinted at this between Captain Hook and Wendy.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The mismatched Twins seem like an interesting, humorous choice until you read/recall that canon states: "Peter never quite knew what twins were, and his band were not allowed to know anything he did not know." Ohhhhh.
  • Just Here For TMS: For many people, the only reason that they watch this show is because of the episodes that are done by TMS, as well as that they (TMS) are one of the main reasons why people still remember this show.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Oh boy. Lots of it. From an actual nightmare had by Michael in which his friends are frozen in ice with expressions of horror on their faces, to the episode in which Wendy gets shrunk to fairy size and eaten by the crocodile, causing her to be stuck inside and merge with it to some extent, this show had its very creepy moments. Possibly one reason why the second season toned it down.
    • In the shrunken-Wendy-gets-eaten-by-the-croc episode, she tries to control the beast and stop it from trying to eat her brothers. She only succeeds for a few seconds because the crocodile's willpower is stronger than hers.
    • In "After the Laughter", Wendy's laugh is stolen by the mermaids and a being who collects all lost, misplaced things. Tinker Bell tells the others that without a laugh, Wendy will die. After going through a lot of effort to get it back, the gang encounters Captain Hook...who pops the laugh, and Wendy nearly dies as a result.
    • In one episode where the cast is shrunk, Hook captures them and attaches them to fishing lines as bait.
    • Hook in general. While not without his sympathetic moments, this version of Captain Hook is one of the darkest adaptational portrayals. Bonus points for a fearsome vocal performance by Tim Curry.
  • Tear Jerker: The final episodes, "The Ages of Pan", especially Peter finally remembering everything and turning the island back to normal.
    • The lead-up to it fits as well, with somber music playing as Hook forces Peter to walk the plank.
  • Too Good to Last
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: The crocodile is explicitly stated to be female. It's impossible to tell by looking at her, though.
