Friday the 13th (film)/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Enforced Method Acting: The child in the first movie who played Jason was originally intended to only appear in a short flashback of him drowning. But the director decided to have him appear in the end as a surprise. He was instructed not to show anyone the mask he wore for the scene. The shock and fear on Alice's face is genuine.
  • Executive Meddling: The reason why Jason Takes Manhattan only spends about twenty minutes there.
    • Also the reason Tina's dad in Part VII doesn't look even remotely dead.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!: Kevin Bacon in the original movie.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Friday the 13th, naturally.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Betsy Palmer's only reason to appear in the original film was to get cash for a new car.
  • Throw It In: This is why Jason Vorhees wears a hockey mask. No, dead serious here. In Friday the 13th Part III, the script originally called for him not to be masked at all, but for one shoot, the cast was in a rush to complete the scene, and there wasn't enough time to apply Richard Brooker's makeup. So they found an old hockey mask and well, film history was made.
  • What Could Have Been: Jason's original name was supposed to be Josh.
    • The original script for Part III had Jason wearing an umpire's mask.
    • Part VII were supposed to be much, much gorier.
    • Part IX was originally supposed to be about Jason going to LA and fighting two rivaling gangs who unite their forces to stop him.
    • Jason's father Elias was supposed to appear in Part VI and Jason Goes to Hell but the idea was scrapped both times.
    • Not to mention that part VII was originally supposed to have Jason fighting Freddy Krueger, but due to Paramount and New Line Cinema being unable to reach an agreement, it was rewritten to feature a girl with telekinetic powers. Her final battle with Jason still ends up being stupid awesome.
      • In Freddy vs. Jason the climax was supposed to be interrupted when a vortex from hell opened in the middle of the lake and Pinhead emerged to bring them both back. They also toyed with the idea of having them do battle with Ash, but Sam Raimi wouldn't allow them to use the character.
    • The remake was initially planned to be a prequel.
