Massive Dynamic is a multi-billion-dollar corporation founded by William Bell, and is responsible for research, development and production in a variety of different high-tech fields. These include, but are not limited to; weapons testing, robotics, medical equipment, aeronautics, genetics and pharmaceuticals.

First Appearance: Season 1, Episode 20: "There's More Than One Of Everything"

The former CEO and founder of Massive Dynamic, the leading manufacturer in cutting edge technology and military weaponry. An old lab partner and friend of Walter Bishop, he and Walter conducted numerous experiments back in the day in an attempt to learn the secrets of the alternate universe.

While Walter was working with Fringe Division, Bell however took refuge in the alternate universe to gain a footing.

  • Back from the Dead:
    • In "Os", he returned by possessing Olivia.

  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Played with in Season 1 and part of Season 2, but eventually shown that while he's benevolent, he is without a doubt morally grey. When they meet again, Walter considers him one.
  • Crazy Prepared

  • Determinator: This man has not come back to life once, or twice, but three times. The guy just won't stay dead.
  • Guile Hero
  • Grand Theft Me: Possesses Olivia's body via his "soul magnets".
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Twice.
    • In "Over There", Bell gave his life to help the Fringe team cross back to the prime universe. Cue the outcries of "He's Just Hiding", which were right. Sort of.
    • In "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide", after possessing Olivia's body, Bell instigates the Journey to the Center of the Mind to save her while fully aware that doing so will kill him. He lies to Walter in order to accomplish this, claiming that something can be done to save his consciousness, even though it was never possible.
  • Intoxication Ensues: Both he and Walter are quite proud of their past LSD trips.
  • Jerkass: Maybe a little bit... Whilst in Olivia's body, his shameless hitting on Astrid certainly counts as awkward as hell... Secondly, despite knowing the risks, he still took over Olivia's body without a second's hesitation. And of course, many could still argue his opening of Massive Dynamic right after chopping up Walter's brain.

  • Made of Explodium: His pistol shells, as several unfortunate Fringe Division Mooks discovered.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Spiking the tea he shared with Olivia during their first meeting with this "soul magnets" certainly counts. He practically planned on possessing her right at the start.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: He drinks MacCutcheon whiskey, in which a single swallow of is worth more than Desmond's monthly paycheck.
  • Not Quite Dead: Oh baby yeah!
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: ...Where to begin. Firstly, he's the one who made Walter insane, and treated him himself within the institutions - all in an attempt to protect the secrets of crossing universes. He's also the one who administered coretexiphan to Olivia, and experimented on her as a child. Not to mention, he's the one who wrote ZFT, and was indirectly responsible for David Robert Jones' terror spree.
    • He also designed the Shapeshifter technology, and Walter suspects have he aided Walternate in the development of the Wave Sink Device No. 3.
      • In Bell's defence, while he did make Walter insane, he did so at Walter's request.
        • And Jones basically rewrote the ZFT to suit his purpose.


Nina Sharp

Nina Sharp

"We've reached a point where science and technology have advanced at an exponential rate for so long... that it may be far beyond our ability to regulate and control it."

Portrayed by Blair Brown

First Appearance: Season 1, Episode 1: "Pilot"

The Chief Operating Officer of Massive Dynamic, she is in fact the de facto Man In Charge of it during William Bell's absence - which is almost always. While her motives were at first foggy at best, she has proven herself to be a valuable ally to Fringe Division and will help them any way she can.

First Appearance: Season 2, Episode 14: "Momentum Deferred"

The chief science engineer of Massive Dynamic, Brandon works directly under Nina Sharp. When tasked, he assists Fringe Division in any way he can.
