< Fringe‎ | Recap‎ | S03

After an unsuccessful attempt at using The Machine on this side has seriously injured Peter Bishop and left him unconscious, he is escorted to the hospital with Walter and Astrid. Olivia starts looking for answers on how to deal with the issue of The Machine, starting with Sam Weiss.

Cut to a highway, in which a freak electrical storm happens, and they are starting to occur more frequently due to the operation of The Machine.

After seeing the recent burn victims in the hospital due to the electrical storm, Walter wants to look for a hint, an idea, and after Astrid gives him one, he settles on using what Benjamin Franklin did: use a kite and draw in the lightning. He gets struck twice, and he has gained another idea, and he and Astrid go back to the lab.

Olivia and Sam Weiss go to a cemetery, and Sam reveals he is the seventh person to hold the name, and his previous named family members have tried to locate missing pieces of the manuscript regarding The First People. He breaks open a coffin of one of his descendants, finding a box. A piece of the manuscript tells The Machine can be opened with a key, a crowbar so Peter can get inside The Machine and control it.

Peter wakes up, only to be amnesiac, and looks at the burn victims. He walks outside, only to find the electrical storm has taken the whole town. He then finds a cab that would take him to New York.

Walter finds out the recurring nature and pattern of the freak accidents coming along the East Coast, and he finds out one very important thing and decides to tell Broyles: The Machine on both sides are linked, our side is in Massive Dynamic at Boston, and The Other Side has theirs in Liberty Island, in the Department of Defense. Walter's idea is to move this side's Machine to Liberty Island, even though the intensity of the events may increase, Walter says he's trying to buy Olivia time to find a way to let Peter in the Machine.

Olivia and Sam find the key at a museum, even though they nearly got struck by dry lightning indoors. When Olivia finds a way to open the box, they find out the crowbar is actually a piece of paper that has Olivia's face on it. They then proceed to Walter's Lab.
