Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
< Fringe‎ | Recap‎ | S03

May 26th, 2026...

Following the use of The Machine, Peter Bishop finds himself in the Bad Future, on a New York City street, and is taken to a hospital following the outdoors disaster, and said disaster was using the Machine and destroying The Other Side, along with the possibly imminent destruction of this side of the universe. And an organization calling itself "The End of Dayers" had been accelerating the rate in which this side of Earth will be soon lost, starting with a light-based weapon destroying an opera house... and that organization is led by Walternate, whose side has been destroyed by the Machine and is exacting his revenge on this side. Peter gets out of the hospital and starts looking for answers about the weapon, and after visiting an imprisoned Walter Bishop (who was to blame and had the full responsibility of the destruction by The Machine), Peter tries to crack the mystery by himself, but to no avail. He asks Broyles (who is now a senator) to grant Walter a temporary furlough from prison, despite his reluctance.

Following Peter's discussion with Broyles, Peter seeks out Walter's help to investigate the weapon used to take down the Opera House. Walter is granted access to his lab back in Harvard (albeit with the condition with police still guarding him), and he finds out Peter and Olivia are married. Walter starts his investigation of the components of the light-based weapon, and the next morning, he tells Peter and Olivia an idea of what it is, and they are sent to a site where Walternate seems likely to place his next attack.

However, when Peter and Olivia go to the site, Peter finds a key to a cabin, and Olivia proceeds to Central Park when reports come in of an intruder at the area where the Amber was used to seal off Central Park. Peter enters the cabin, only to find Walternate sitting there, and after Walternate talks about how Peter had destroyed the Other Side, Peter tries to make amends and subsequently arrest him, only to find out Walternate in the cabin was only a holographic image. After Olivia sees the Amber guarding Central Park being disintegrated and the dimensional hole comes, she calls for an evacuation order, only to be shot in the head by the real Walternate, who was in a car in New York the whole time.

The next part is Olivia's funeral, in which Peter leads the speech. We don't get to hear most of it, but the funeral ends after Olivia's coffin gets pushed into the harbor and burned by Peter himself. Cue Peter at his house, and Walter makes an idea for Peter: use the Machine again to undo all the events of the Bad Future by hiding the components back through the ravages of time.

Coming back to the moment when Peter uses the Machine, both sides show discrepancies with the Machine's operation, and both sides of Walter and Olivia find themselves in the same room, joined by Peter. Peter tries to explain what he had done and what may happen, but he vanishes before he can finish. Both Walters argue against each other, but both Olivias agree now they are where they are, they have to save both sides. Cue the outside of Liberty Island, where The Observers mention Peter has served his purpose, but no longer exists due to the time paradoxes involved with his further use of The Machine. The third season ends here.
