Season 4, Episode 4:

Subject 9

A glowing field of energy appears in Olivia's bedroom one morning, attempting to get close to her and at the same time attracting metal objects from around the room. When she tells Walter, he remembers a subject from the cortexiphan trials who had the ability to astral-project himself. To find out more about him, Olivia proposes a visit to Massive Dynamic to visit Nina Sharp. In NY, Olivia and Astrid meet Nina as she's giving a presentation to a group of Massive Dynamic employees, speaking about how as scientists, they're not responsible for what's done with the technologies they create. It's also revealed that in this timeline, Fringe Division hasn't encountered the cortexiphan kids before, Olivia ran away from the experiments and never returned (and she remembers all this), and that she and Nina have been close since she was a teenager. They learn that the subject Walter remembers is named Cameron James.

At the same time, Walter discovers that St. Claire's has sent Olivia a letter asking for her reccomendation whether or not to have him readmitted. To prove his sanity, Walter decides to leave the lab for the first time in three years and accompany Olivia to track down Cameron. He has a freak-out in the hotel room, but Olivia calms him down and they go out for a root-beer float; Walter admits that he knows about the letter, but before they can discuss it, the energy field appears again. The next day, they find Cameron James and learn that although he causes magnetic fields when agitated, he hasn't been able to astral project since the experiments finished. The engery field arrives again and charges towards them, but Cameron is able to dissipate it with his cortexiphan ability.

Walter comes up with a plan to destroy the energy field permenantly by using Cameron's ability to discharge it into power transformers. As they get ready, Cameron talks to Olivia and suggests that it's her who is causing the energy field to appear, and that her cortexiphan abilities are starting to manifest. When the energy field returns, Cameron starts using his ability to try and destroy it permenantly, but it manages to get close enough to Olivia that she's able to recognise the form it's trying to take: the man from her dreams and Walter's hallucinations (i.e., Peter). Not wanting to destroy it, she fires her gun into the air to startle Cameron and stop him from destroying the field, and it disappears. Walter theorises that the field has been displaced, and Cameron asks Olivia to make sure that Walter doens't contact him again.

At Reiden Lake, Peter Bishop appears in the water. He's rescued by some bystanders and admitted to hospital, where his knowledge of Fringe Division cases and personnel gets Broyles' attention. Olivia visits Peter at the hospital, but although he's glad to see her, she doesn't know who Peter is.
