Futilitris is a tiny Flash game, a variant of the well-known falling blocks game, created by Jim Crawford (Twinbeard).

Tropes used in Futilitris include:


  • A Winner Is You: There is not even that, just the credits screen and "[click to restart]". And you get the very same credits screen after you "lose".
  • Deconstruction Game: at least Double Subverted. The game starts like an ordinary Tetris clone, but when you build a row, it doesn't disappear; instead, the board expands horizontally. You can never actually score a row. Then you notice the aspect ratio indicator and try to minimise it. And indeed, when the board becomes wide enough, you get the Closing Credits screen. However, you get the very same screen after getting it high enough. "Losing" is also impossible. Truly futile.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: It's Tetris, and it demonstrates futility. What more to say?
  • Rock Me, Amadeus: The background music is a chiptune rendition of the beginning of Tchaikovsky's Slavonic March.
  • Scoring Points: Subverted. The row counter always displays zero. Then again, there is the aspect ratio indicator, but it is not a true score.
  • Unwinnable Joke Game: And even unloseable!. When you build a full row, the board expands horizonally, but when you fill it up vertically, it also expands. When the board becomes big enough, the game ends, regardless of how it happened.
