Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
A smile to protect.

Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling (ガチムチパンツレスリング Gachimuchi Pantsu Resuringu GPW) is a Japanese internet subculture and a sub-genre of the Wrestling Series (レスリングシリーズ Resuringu Shirīzu) Nico Nico Douga tag. The phenomenon began on August 10, 2007.

Set around homoerotic wrestling, the original purpose of GPW was to be a glorified and refined Japanese Rickroll. However, the rich enjoyment taken from the gay wrestling videos was increasing, was discovered to have amazing soramimi (common in several neighboring Niconico fandoms such as A Midsummer Night's Lewd Dream, Futae no Kiwami, etc.) or mondegreen, and the sound of spanking were amazing materials used for MAD videos.

As per Niconico's robust mechanics, GPW would have its own tags centered around faux-bait-and-switch tactics, character traits, soramimi, characters, etc.

There are several hundred films that were ultimately utilized to keep this phenomenon afloat in Japan. The films are pornographic, but most are centered around a major theme: pants wrestling.

The films will only be named in mention in some of tropes. They are not to be given their own respective pages.

Tropes used in Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling include:
  • Adult Fear: The stakes for the ultimate submission (read: safe anal sex) in a 1-2-3 wrestling match? Check. Running out of a burning apartment after getting knocked out? Check. Getting caught peeking at wrestlers and forcefully challenged to wrestle? Check. Getting caught staring at a plump, voluptuous maid? Check.
  • Ascended Meme: Several actors took notice of their fame and went with it.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Many.
    • Duncan Mills peeking into the basement where Billy Herrington and Danny Lee wrestled in Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3. He is caught looking into the basement by Billy Herrington.
    • Mark Wolff carrying an unconscious Philippe Nicolas into the oil pit. Only to suffer the same fate with Jirka Kalvoda and Jarda Kolar in Wolff's World.
  • "What?" Cliffhanger: Lords of the Lockerroom.
  • Cowboy Episode: Most popular examples are Cowboy Wrestling 4 and the avant-garde Saddle Up.
  • Curb Stomp Wrestling: The final wrestling match between Billy Herrington and Mark Wolff in Lords of the Lockerroom.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Chi Chi LaRue.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Natch.
  • Expressive Hair: Billy Herrington. Danny Lee.
  • Expy: Many.
    • In regards to soramimi, several characters, most notably Mark Wolff, as the otaku or savvy person.
  • Faux Symbolism: Comes from how Japan has its own mastery of its soramimi of the source films and "symbolism".
  • Japanese Love Billy Herrington: Surprisingly subverted.
  • Getting Crap Past the Radar: Once the genitalia or breasts are exposed, the Japanese utilized a baby boy's smiling face in Aka-san to censor out the aforementioned private parts. Aka-san would eventually become a mainstay alternative to freely upload erotic films centered around the vast amount of characters in Niconico.
  • Groin Attack: Natch.
  • Hidden Depths: An old subculture laced in with homoeroticism, wrestling, philsophy, and mishearings? Check. The inaccessibility to grasp GPW without needing to be Nippon savvy? Check. Mishearings ranging from culture, locations, anime, hentai, films, pop culture? Check.
  • Hot-Blooded: Natch.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Jake Stevens (an alias from Billy Herrington) and Raquel Devine in Extreme Mat Fights.
  • Karma Houdini:
    • Subverted in Playing with Fire 2 where Bo Garrett finally gets arrested after leaving behind his signature evidence.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Natch.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • The nature in how GPW came to be and defined. First by getting a film outside of your continent, uploading it to a Japanese site where the culture shift changes in the audiences, trolling users on an imageboard, and then becoming a main-stay in the site's culture.
    • The act of censoring indecent scenes or even editing them out.
    • Using a baby's face to hide private parts.
  • Media Research Failure: Due to its age, polarizing culture, complex video gathering, and cryptic nature, GPW information tends to succumb to this in the western scene than in the Japanese scene.
  • Mind Screw: Naturally due to Japan being the ones to create GPW and thus have unforgiving amounts of in-depth supplementary content for something so simple on the outside (e.g. western homoerotic wrestling films).
  • Mr. Fanservice: Comes with the territory of being focused on homoerotic wrestling and its actors.
  • Multiple Demographic Appeal:
    • The raw, original films? Not a single chance. Taking into account Japanese cultures, GPW is not tame in any way, due to it being compared to another infamous homoerotic fandom.
    • Hand-waved by Billy Herrington himself in his 2016 China interview.
  • Mood Whiplash: Surprisingly.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: One example out of many in Gachimuchi Pants Wrestling is that Billy Herrington uses his muscles to overpower Nick Steel in Lords of the Lockerroom.
  • Porn with Wrestling: Natch.
  • Playing with Fire
    • Playing with Fire 2.
      • Bo Garrett's role as the main antagonist, the Semen Arsonist.
      • Cameron Sage saying the trope name out loud to Steve Cassidy.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: The entire soundtrack to Junkyard Boyz.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Many.
    • Danny Lee is red to Billy Herrington's blue.
  • Revenge: Billy Herrington to Nick Steel.
  • Roaring Rampage Of Revenge: Many.
    • Mark Wolff after getting defeated by Jirka Kalvoda and Jarda Kolar in Wolff's World.
    • Billy Herrington after getting defeated by Duncan Mills through ball grabbing in Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3.
    • Billy Herrington after getting successfully put to sleep by Nick Steel and waking up in Lords of the Lockerroom.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Nick Steel initially, and Billy Herrington.
  • Shout-Out: Played with.
    • Razor lists The Beatles' names after Thunder and Lightning show up late to the meeting in Hard Heroes.
  • Single Gender Race: Subverted.
  • The Merch: After Billy Herrington's popularity rose in Japan, Good Smile Company created and distributed 4 limited edition figmas of Billy Herrington. The figmas include a base underwear figma that alludes to Billy's appearance from Workout: Muscle Fantasies 3; a birthday figma with leather attire that alludes to Billy's 2nd appearance from Recharge!; a Halloween figma; and finally, a Christmas/New Year figma that alldues to Billy's 1st appearance from Recharge!, but with a hoodie instead of a shirt.
  • The Stoic: Anthony Capriati.
  • Viewers Are Geniuses: In spades. First, due to the language barriers of English and Japanese, it is hard to communicate the message (read: soramimi and symbolic mid-wrestling poses) given by the wrestler(s). Second, soramimi range from easy to understand to not making any sense at all in either of the two language speaking worlds (read: nonsensical phrases, plain obscurity, and subjects Lost in Translation). Third, some of the wrestlers are treated as "philosophers". Finally, to further halt any more examples, GPW has its own "philosophy".
