• Complete Monster: Unsurprisingly, Sarris, the genocidal warlord with a penchant for Cold-Blooded Torture, ticks off all five of this trope's criteria with considerable aplomb.
• Genius Bonus: Gallium Arsenide is the primary component required for the production of laser diodes.
• Harsher in Hindsight: After Tommy is injured badly, he screams in pain after his arm is broken. Daryl Mitchell, the actor playing Tommy, was in a motorcycle accident and was left paralyzed because of it. Now watch the scene with this fact in mind...
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • When Tony Shalhoub's character has to operate the digital conveyor, and he talks about the thing he did with his hands...
  • Similarly, same character's rather out-of-nowhere remark on how impressively clean the floors are in the alien spaceship.
  • Also, Shepherd is fighting Gorignak (the rock monster), and remarks that he "doesn't have any weak points." The line becomes especially ironic when Gorignak later makes a kind-of reappearance in Metroid Prime, where its revealed that it does have a weakness (using the thermal visor to locate the weak phazon ore, expose it with firepower, and then finishing it off with firepower while using the combat visor.
• Large Ham:
  • Keep in mind that Tim Allen has to parody one of the biggest hams in television history. He does so with gusto.
  • The actor playing Sarris (Robin Sachs) hams it up considerably as well.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • The leading fanboy (Justin Long) went on to become Bruce Willis' sidekick in Live Free or Die Hard (this was his first role).
  • Also, young Tommy is played by Corbin Bleu, of High School Musical fame.
  • Dwight Schrute is one of the aliens that come down to Earth to pick up Jason Nesmith.
• Shout-Out: The name "Thermian" might have been inspired by "Thermo Man" of My Hero! fame. My Hero was a parody of another classic, long-running sci-fi series, and it starred a socially-clueless alien on Earth.
• Squick: The aforementioned Naughty Tentacles, plus the Teleporter Accident.
• Tear Jerker: Surprisingly, this movie has some emotionally powerful moments, not the least of which is when Jason is forced by Sarris to explain the concept of TV shows to Mathesar, who looks absolutely devastated.
  • The death of Quellek, including Alexander's last words to him.
