  • Badass Decay: Nyaro takes this to the logical extreme. At the beginning of the episode, he is introduced after having slain several gods, with bad lighting that barely reveals his features and apparently reveling in the carnage. By the end of the episode, he's been chased by the police, defeated several times by accident, and his One-Winged Angel form blasts off after basically having his toe stubbed.
  • Crack Pairing: Considering the main pair is a human and a Great Old One, you'd think this be enough. But there's also Cthugha x Nyarlathotep. In the regular Mythos, one was used to fight off the other!
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: The eyecatch for episode 2 - Nyarko drinking "Cola of Cthulhu".
  • Ear Worm: Days after the trailer was out, people thought the beginning part of the song was catchy.

  • Fridge Brilliance or Fridge Horror: The gods of the Cthulhu mythos love Earth's anime, manga, and games - especially, apparently, the hentai stuff based on the doujin Nyaruko was buying in episode one.
  • Love It or Hate It: Being an Ecchi comedy based on teenage girl versions of the eldritch things of the Cthulhu Mythos, and having Nyarlathotep, who's canonically one of the only truly evil beings in the Mythos as a teen girl, one can already hear the Lovecraft fans getting riled up over what can easily be viewed as Canon Defilement.
    • Most Lovecraft aficionados are pretty accustomed to canon defilement. Any writing as painfully straight-faced as HPL's is just bursting ripe for parody, and the mythos has been mined for referentiality or just plain transparent name-dropping for decades. It's hard not to be used to it by now.
  • Memetic Mutation: The Strange Circumstances of one Mahiro Yasaka, as written by H.P. Lovecr/a/ft, from the /a/ board of 4chan, which is a re-imagining of the events of the episodes of the anime as if they were written and narrated by Lovecraft himself:
  • Memetic Sex Great Old One: Luuhi Jiston, with her glasses, attractiveness, and very nice business attire, fans can't get enough of her.
  • Unfortunate Implications: Of the Stealth Pun / Incredibly Lame Pun variety. Cuuko is a being of living fire with Psycho Lesbian tendencies. Consider one of the derogatory names used to describe homosexuals.
