Hank Azaria

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Ever since 1990, Hank Azaria has voiced many secondary characters from The Simpsons, including miserable, suicidal Jerkass bartender Moe Szyslak; Valley Boy career criminal Snake Jailbird; fat, incompetent town cop Chief Clancy Wiggum; and Indian[1] Kwik-E-Mart clerk Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the Sarcastic Middle Aged Clerk[2], and others. He also voiced Edward Brock/Venom in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Bartok the bat in Anastasia.

Azaria's live action appearances include Jay Nichols in Herman's Head, Nat the Dog Walker in Mad About You, and David (Phoebe's scientist boyfriend) in Friends (which crossed over with each other, so Celebrity Paradox), as well as his memorably slimeball role in Heat; the one where he has his head figuratively all the way up Ashley Judd's great ass. Played Agador the houseboy in The Birdcage, Kahmunrah in Night at the Museum Battle At The Smithsonian and the Blue Rajah in Mystery Men.

Both in appearance and through his seemingly endless repertoire of exotic accents, he's Ambiguously Brown. He is actually an American Sephardic Jew.

Hank Azaria is the Trope Namer for:
  • Idiot Ball: He coined the term during his time on Herman's Head, when he would ask the writing staff, "Who's carrying the idiot ball this week?"
  1. From India, not "Native American Indian"
  2. Real name: Raphael, according to Sideshow Bob
