Pretty Konjiki's Heartcatch Pretty Cure - a more mature take on the season, with the addition of a Cure created by Pretty Konjiki;

And There Was Much Rejoicing: As a Shout-Out to Teen Girl Squad, after Itsuki quits her position as the Student Council President, the rest of the student council celebrates the end of the "tyranny". It's a variation, because Itsuki was the one admired by everyone in the school.
Ascended Extra: Aya Mizushima
Big No: Said by Itsuki at the end of episode 23 as Satsuki's Heart Flower wilts, killing him for good. Afterwards, it's said by Potpourri when Aya becomes Cure Apricot and then by Tsubomi after she finds out that her Mysterious Protector is the human embodiment of her Heart Flower.
Book Ends: Both versions begin with Cure Moonlight and Dark Cure's fight. This version ends with a happier ending to said fight, with Dark Cure -- now Cure Kismet -- and Cure Moonlight shaking hands and forgiving each other.
BST: Erika and Azuki have this kind of relationship.
Darker and Edgier: To a lesser extent than Pretty Konjiki's version, although it's still there.
Death by Adaptation: Satsuki.
Empathic Environment / It Always Rains At Funerals: It's raining during Satsuki's funeral in episode 23's Ending Theme, symbolizing the fact that Itsuki failed to become Cure Sunshine and save him.
Face Heel Turn: Prior to the beginning of the story the Dark Pretty Cure went through this. Later on, it's pulled by Itsuki in episode 24.
Heel Face Turn: Itsuki switches back in episode 37, while Sasorinna becomes good in episode 40, and the Dark Cure does so much later, in episode 47.
Heroic BSOD: Itsuki has one shortly after Satsuki's death, leading to the aforementioned Face Heel Turn.
He Who Must Not Be Seen: Yuri's boyfriend.
Killed Off for Real: Satsuki, much to Itsuki's sorrow. This turns out to be the last straw that pushes her to pull a Face Heel Turn.
- Also, Yuri's father is revealed to be this; here Sabaaku is just a clone of him.
- This is averted with Cologne, who comes back to life after Yuri regains her powers.
Mood Dissonance / Soundtrack Dissonance: Averted; there are several ending themes that are used depending on the mood of the episode's end. A notable example is episode 23, which uses Randy Newman's "Losing You" (mostly known from being used in a Toy Story 3 trailer) played over footage of Satsuki's funeral as the ending theme.
Moral Event Horizon: Subverted by Sasorina when she causes Satsuki's death, which directly leads to Itsuki's Face Heel Turn. The severity of this action isn't enough to prevent Sasorina from switching sides later on, though.
Morality Chain: Satsuki to Itsuki. He counts because his death is what causes her Face Heel Turn in the very next episode (although she does switch back in episode 37).
New Transfer Student: Tsubomi at first; later Irene, the foreign exchange student from England who debuts in episode 25, and Sasori Kousa, the Heel Face Turned Sasorinna.
Nonuniform Uniform: Itsuki, like in the original, but in this version the female uniform she wears in the finale is also different.
Original Character: Misora Hachimitsu/Cure Honey, Azuki Kitasawa/Cure Chartreuse, their Non Human Sidekicks, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Schoolgirl Lesbians: Tsubomi and Itsuki eventually become this. On the other hand, Misora also had a schoolgirl lesbian crush on the latter at the start of the story.
Shout-Out: Various. For one thing, Azuki/Cure Chartreuse is an indirect allusion to the Disney version of Peter Pan, and Itsuki's dialogue as she mourns over her brother's death is directly taken from a scene in the same studio's version of Cinderella.
Sixth Ranger: While Azuki/Cure Chartreuse and Aya/Cure Apricot are technically straight examples, Itsuki is a subversion.
Spot of Tea: Irene is often seen sipping tea, in particular during this version's opening theme.
Tall, Dark and Snarky: Azuki
The Cameo: In episodes 35 and 36, Restart (obviously) makes a special appearance, complete with Pe Lanza being the one that has his Heart Flower stolen in episode 36.
The Untwist: At first it's suspected that Aya might be Potpourri's Pretty Cure, then Potpourri becomes sure that Itsuki is the one... And then it turns out to be Aya after all.
The Woobie: Itsuki, even more so than in the original; this is mostly via Trauma Conga Line.
Theme Tune Cameo: "Heart Goes On", which was BGM for a fashion show in the original, here is BGM for the Cures' final battle with Dune.
Transformation Is a Free Action: Brutally subverted by Sasorinna in episode 23.
Yuri Fan: Misora, of both Girls Love and Yuri at the same time.

Antagonist in Mourning: See Due to the Dead below.
Due to the Dead: Cure Moonlight burns the dead bodies of Professor Sabark and Dark Pretty Cure in funeral pyres, with only herself, the other Cures (including Cure Flower), and the mascots in attendance.
Missing Trailer Scene: Several scenes, including an encounter between Yuri Tsukikage (wearing glasses at the time) and Dark Cure in a forest clearing, were shot for the theatrical trailer to make the trailer look like a Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ripoff, complete with Dark Cure's dialogue in one such scene: "Yuri Tsukikage... Cure Moonlight... come to die."
Moral Event Horizon: Sasorina comes dangerously close (and Itsuki even acknowledges it) at the climax of the first act when she tries to delay Itsuki's transformation into Cure Sunshine, thereby threatening Satsuki's life. Unlike Pop Goes My Heart, though, Satsuki is saved at the last second when Potpourri disables Sasorina. It's not the fact she endangered Satsuki's life that almost pushes her over but the way she did it. Nevertheless, she's still sympathetic enough to be purified at the climax of the second act.
Not His Sled: As in Pop Goes My Heart, Satsuki's life is threatened, and Sasorina actually goes as far as to tell Itsuki to "either jump in the fire, or I'll take you by force." However, at the last second, Potpourri pulls a Big Damn Heroes moment and disables Sasorina long enough for Itsuki to transform into Cure Sunshine for the first time and save her brother from certain death.
Precision F-Strike: In her first appearance, after defeating Sasorina, Cure Sunshine says, "If I ever catch you screwing around with a relative again, you're going to Hell, bitch." Later, she calls what she did to Satsuki on the operating table "The Miraculous Bitchslap of Life" after getting his heart rate steady again her own way.
3D Movie
Worst Aid: When Satsuki goes into V-tech during the surgery scene at the end of the first act, Itsuki barges into the operating room and performs "The Miraculous Bitchslap of Life" on him, and yes, complete with a PG-rated version of the obligatory Cluster F-Bomb (including at least one "Goddamn" and multiple "hells" and "damns"). Seriously, that's how the MBL worked in The Abyss!

Killed Off for Real: Prior to the beginning of the story, the Hanasaki family suffers a car crash that kills Tsubomi's parents and Futaba.
Meaningful Name: Momiji ("maple leaf"; she transforms into Cure Maple), Ibuki ("juniper"; she transforms into Cure Juniper) and Pustynia ("desert" in Russian).
Meganekko: Shion is a rare male example.
Mooks: Pustynia's Sneockies, which are new and improved versions of the original Snackies.
Original Character: 75% of the cast is this.
Please Select New City Name: Somewhere between the end of the original and the beginning of this one, the town of Kibougahana ("Flower of Hope") had its name changed to Haganegahana ("Flower of Steel").
Red Oni, Blue Oni: Momiji and Ibuki, natch.
Robot Buddy: C.Y.P.R.3, a robotic copy of Tsubomi's Non-Human Sidekick Chypre.
Shout-Out: It's noticeable that the story borrows many elements from Mirai Sentai Timeranger (such as Shion being named after Time Green's civillian identity Sion) and its Power Rangers counterpart Power Rangers Time Force.

Tomboy and Girly Girl: Ibuki and Momiji, respectively, have this vibe, with a dash of Straight Man and Wise Guy as well.

Bittersweet Ending
Darker and Edgier: This is the kind of story that, if canon, could put the entire Pretty Cure franchise under the What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids? trope as far as Tokyo is concerned.
Disproportionate Retribution: Is it against house rules to support your family, alert your friend's mother when something seems up, or check on your friend to see if she's all right in the middle of her job?
What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?: Because of the obviously adult thematic involved, it's safe to say it's damn good this isn't canon, because if it was it'd probably be Shintaro Ishihara's answer to a younger Pretty Cure fan's question, "Why can't I watch Pretty Cure anymore until I'm older?" if said fan was living in Tokyo.
You Are Grounded: By the end, Haruna's layoff, due to how desperate Yuri was to keep herself and her mother under their current roof, has claimed two casualties, including Yuri herself and her friend.
