Hidden Depths/Playing With
Basic Trope: A character becomes more Rounded as the show goes on.
- Straight: At the start of the show, George is The Ditz. At the end of the show, he's turned out to be a Genius Ditz.
- Exaggerated: In the pilot and the second episode, George is a fanatic animal rights activist who doesn't seem to stop talking about it. At the end of Season 9 (the series finale), he's pretty much The Everyman.
- Justified: George prefers not to talk about himself, so his unusual nature is not evident.
- Inverted: Flanderization
- Subverted: A character does things that are unexpected for them but it is revealed that they are terrible at it.
- Double Subverted: ...and then it is revealed that they were only pretending to be bad at those things to avoid freaking people out.
- Parodied: Everyone is amused when The Brute is revealed to have written a poetry book.
- Deconstructed: George, the six-foot star of his high school's football team, hides his love of puppetry and musical theatre from his friends because he thinks that if they knew, they would look down on him for it. Despite his best efforts to hide his hobbies, his friends begin to look down on him as they find out more about him and eventually reject him entirely.
- Reconstructed: ... but then the power of friendship sways their hearts and accept him for his oddities, going on to become stronger friends than before.
- Zig Zagged: ???
- Averted: George really is just The Ditz, and not hiding any intelligent hobbies or interests.
- Enforced: "We need to keep viewers interested in our show- let's show George getting some Character Development to keep it fresh."
