• The CONQUEST ENDING is one long, brutal parade of tear inducing horror:
  • First, in Lastation You have to kill Noire and Uni to power up the cursed sword, and Kei demands you get out of her sight once you slain them, barely able to maintain her stoic personality afterwards
  • It's even worse later in Lowee When Blanc demands she go first so she doesn't have to watch Rom and Ram die, with Neptune obliging her request, and Rom and Ram are crying as Nepgear ends their lives, holding each other hands with their final breaths, and Mina is so heartbroken afterwards she nearly breaks down in grief stricken rage as she demands Nepgear and company get out of the Basilicom.
  • By the time you get to Leanbox afterwards, an utterly serious Vert is ready and she states that she will either die by Neptune and Nepgear's hands, or she will kill the both of them, and after an incredibly difficult battle in which Vert proves incredibly hard to take down and is on the verge of death, that when Underling shows up to execute the coup d'egrace, prompting Nepgear and company to turn their rage on her, and Nepgear scores the only kill in the entire ending sequence both her and the player won't feel terrible about later, after which Vert requests a Mercy Kill and that they take care of Chika, who, upon hearing the news of Vert's death, turns into a sobbing wreck.
  • And it gets even more sad back in Planeptune, with Nepgear on the verge of a total breakdown, and Neptune decides it's time. So she leads Nepgear to a place they played as children, and in her meta-humor, quirky way, asks Nepgear to Get It Over With. Nepgear is shocked and doesn't want to do it, and that's when NEPTUNE, OF ALL PEOPLE, GETS COMPLETELY SERIOUS, and convinces Nepgear to slay her. Nepgear finally does, and as Neptune valiantly tries to Face Death With Dignity, Nepgear finally loses it.
  • And finally, when it comes time to face the Deity of Sin, the entire party is on the verge of a breakdown from all the sadness of the things Nepgear had to do, they finally go to battle. As it's time to score the finishing blow with the Gehaburn, the cursed sword, Arfoire welcomes her demise, shocking Nepgear. As she dies, Arfoire explains her needs to destroy the world is at an end since the cursed sword in Nepgear's hands has ensured Nepgear will take her place over a world at peace. And, as Nepgear wonders what is wrong with that Arfoire explains Nepgear has eliminated all competition and reason for the world to grow and evolve, and by doing so, has ensured the world WILL eventually die without Arfoire's intervention to make sure of it.
  • And, in the end, Nepgear resolves to unite the world to prevent Arfoire from ever coming back. Kei has resigned herself to submitting to Nepgear's will, while Mina is still consumed with grief and refuses to leave Lowee, while Chika has become a depressed, delusional mess in Leanbox, unable to accept Vert is gone. And all the humans who accompanied Nepgear go their separate ways. Regardless, Nepgear resolves to walk the path she has paved, still haunted by Arfoire parting words.........
    • In short, this is considered one of the most depressing moments in the history of the Neptunia franchise.
